the way the "ungrateful child" concept is way more applicable in reverse: ungrateful parent
Kathy Bates says she was sure she never thanked her mother in her Misery Oscar speech, then the interviewer showed her the tape
"She gave up her retirement because I was born so late in life to them."
"When I won the Oscar for Misery, she said, I don't know what all the excitement about, you didn't discover the cure for cancer."
"Why did I think I didn't thank her?"
"Because she should have had my life."
"I wanted her spirit to come into me and enjoy everything I was enjoying because of what she'd given up."
Her mom's whole review of the Oscar was that she didn't cure cancer, and Kathy still believed she had shorted her that night. Then she watches herself thank her mom at home, right there in the speech. Some people never stop trying to pay their parents back. You can hear it in how quiet she gets at the end.

Love how in English words like "diva", "queen" and "honey" have these nuances, while "girl" usually goes along the feeling of shock or you're about to be read
"Mama", however, indicates you're about to be read every single time

externalizing depression can be helpful, the things around you are shitty and you're unhappy about it

but you knew that this would cause a bit of backlash—you said it yourself multiple times. you won’t even allow yourself the full range to express what feminine traits you don’t like because you know exactly where this will go. and rightfully so. genuinely no shade.

"The wisdom of the peasant is founded on one essential axiom: while wars may come and go, statesmen rise and fall, and popular attitudes wax and wane, when all is said and done a furrow remains a furrow."

At the end of everything I wish Nigerians understood that none of us is happy until the gay people are. Ask around, look at the stats.

I wrote an article in school on this.
If you want to fix dirty politics in Nigeria, fall back to student politics. That's where the misbehaving all begins.

Today is my birthday, but might I interest you in some BTS from my next film FLAWA? I made it with my friends and folks from @ifefilmcommunity. It's my first narrative film since Market People got shot in 2024. I hope to have the trailer and news about it in the coming days.
