True. Rings of Power is the WORST offender. I counted the amount of times the elves use the word "very". Over 30 times elves/dwarves/numenoreans use phrases like "the very tears", "the very Gods", "the very evil", "the very banner", etc. The Rings of Power writers use it in hamfisted ways to add archaic emphasis because they have no other writing tools in their box. It just smacks of hack writers trying to make their dialogue sound archaic. (yes, Tolkien uses it but in the proper way -- denoting the extreme essence of the object, not just as an unpracticed way of providing emphasis)
Very good observations here on a common failure mode for fantasy dialogue - aiming for archaic depth and weight, and ending up instead with overwrought pomposity (see also: Rings Of Power).

I don't think "Just as breathtaking and captivating as its previous seasons" is doing the work you want it to here...
The first reactions to The Lord of the Rings: #TheRingsOfPower season 3 have arrived: 💬: "The first 2 episodes are bangers and this series is getting better and better as it goes on." 💬: "The start of this season is not only some of the series' best work, but TV's best." 💬: "Just as breathtaking and captivating as its previous seasons." Jamie Dornan--portraying Aragorn in The Hunt for Golum--says that for him, Aragorn will always be just Viggo, and he isn't trying to outdo him... I don't envy the task of filling Mortensen's shoes in a film that is simply trying to recapture the magic of the 25 year old trilogy (link in comments).

So, the Rings of Power Season 3 is a soft reboot according to the show runners, with a five-year time jump and a whole new story built around the forging of the One Ring. Hoping to recapture the fandom they abandoned in the first moments of Season 1 is a fool's errand (link in comments).

"But if I am to understand that you are enquiring where i am of _Jewish_ origin, I can only reply that I regret that I appear to have no ancestors of that gifted people". ~ . Tolkien, July 1938, responding to a German publisher asking if he was of Aryan origin.

For the love of… this is NOTHING like Frodo, Sam, and Gollum!
[NEWS] “It's a little bit like Frodo, Sam and Gollum,” McKay admits. “Galadriel had this very grudging respect that developed between her and Adar so she's maybe a little more willing to maybe believe there's something to what Marnûkh is saying.”

"Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends." ~ Gandalf, The Fellowship of the Ring

"Hail, Gurthang, for thou art all men's bane & all men's lives fain wouldst thou drink, knowing no lord or faith save the hand that wields thee. Slay me therefore, for life is a curse, & all my days are creeping foul, & all my deeds are vile & all I love is dead." ~Túrin Turambar

"The map is hell! I have not been as careful as I should in keeping track of distances. I think a large scale map simply reveals all the chinks in the armour--besides being obliged to differ somewhat from the printed small scale version, which was semi-pictorial." ~Tolkien, 1955

Mine fell apart after a couple of years.... My favorite edition up until then.
The worst Tolkien books ever published (or close to), sorry. Do not judge a book by its cover. The ‘Millennium Edition’ breaks the Lord of the Rings up into the seven-volume form Tolkien had in mind, using titles he suggested: 1. The Ring Sets Out 2. The Ring Goes South 3. The Treason of Isengard 4. The Ring Goes East 5. The War of the Ring 6. The End of the Third Age 7. Appendices Great idea. Terrible execution by HarperCollins. They look beautiful in photographs and even on a shelf. But in person they are cheaply bound and like I said probably the worst of all the hardcovers in the catalogue (though all Tolkien books published from about 1998 to 2001 are terribly cheap bindings). The slipcase itself is prone to splitting, and the paper is meh. They are mathoms, one collects and keeps purely because they represent a celebration of Tolkien and are the only hardcover in this seven book format. I keep using the word terrible. At least the content remains the same, beautiful.

"For morning came... and the hosts of Mordor wailed, and terror took them. Then all the host of Rohan burst into song, & they sang as they slew, for the joy of battle was on them, & the sound of their singing that was fair & terrible came even into the City." ~ Return of the King

His names are brilliantly appropriate; the tongues he has devised for the elves & orcs perfectly express, just by their rhythms & phonemic systems, the natures of these races; his style is full of joy, the joy that follows the making of a perfect gesture." ~ D. Barr, NY Times
