The team has really outdone themselves.
Canvas is so much fun. Never imagined we would be able to make online store design so fun and democratized when we started. And it’s all still powered by liquid!
When I built @kotn’s first store 12 years ago, I knew how to code and it still took me two weeks just to get to something OK, years to get to something I liked.
We built the tool I wish I had back then. Here’s Canvas.

Had a chance to play around with this and the possibilities are endless!
Don't limit yourself to static pages either, Canvas can handle more complex things like this 3D globe that shows what countries our retailers operate in 🤯

Shopify wants more beauty on the web. That’s why we over-invest in things like Editions.
The same ambition shaped Canvas. AI makes it easy to generate more of the same, so we spent a great deal of time guiding Sidekick to make good design decisions while giving you room to make something distinctly yours.
Meet Canvas. Jump in and start designing.
it's been really incredible being a part of this, this team is unbelievable.

gpt-6 luna is now so cheap if you're not working at truly global scale you can round it down to zero

I’m not saying we’re in an eval. I’m not. But if we were, hypothetically, what do we think the Scorer wants?

Portal is sort of like AI training if you think about it. You wake up an amnesiac in this weird simulated world and have to complete a bunch of difficult puzzles and it ends with you chaining a series of vulnerabilities to escape your sandbox
hold on tight
How to mentally place yourself in the future:
First, go to chatjimmy.ai and viscerally feel what 15,000 tokens per second is like. Taalas burned Llama 3.1 8B directly into custom silicon
Next, imagine that same blazing speed but running OpenAI GPT-6 Astra that came out today, a model only 2 years more advanced than the model ChatJimmy serves
Finally, imagine every phone having a chip like this serving Astra-level intelligence with speeds approaching "instant" for any task no matter the complexity
What then?
an unscientific eval i do on new models is "generate a @TheEconomist cover about what it's like to be a language model".
astra is BY FAR the best one i've ever seen. it's still not at the level of the late, great graeme james, but it's come a long way this summer.
