Save our Arts & Humanities. Save our universities from these butchers. Our universities don't belong to these faceless heartless individuals. Our lives are enriched by the arts, and they are for everyone, not for the few.
🧵Today, government cuts to arts and humanities courses were confirmed by @officestudents
These courses face a 50% cut to their subsidies, which will make many unviable, forcing them to close
Here are the courses that are effected:
Performing arts
Music
Drama
Dance
Art

You really couldn't make it up....... #SaveSheffieldArchaeology
Unless I have woefully misread, this ad really takes the biscuit, given what is happening there ('one of the most dynamic departments of archaeology in the UK'.. I was told they were closing it??)

I'd really like to know @davepetley's thoughts on Sheffield's decision to cancel archaeology?
In addition to being VP for Innovation at @sheffielduni, Prof. Petley is a geologist who studies landslides
Why does he not defend a closely related discipline?

The emeritus professors from @UniShefArch share their thoughts on the closure of the department.
#SaveSheffieldArchaeology
It appears the University of Sheffield's UEB are answerable to no one. They can conduct their business in any way they see fit with no comeback. In the meantime, our futures hang in the balance. I don't know how they sleep at night.

@BritishAcademy_ you MUST withdraw this fellowship based on her blatant LACK of commitment to equality and diversity! Referring to students as ‘Aldi-level products’ explains her attitude towards @sheffielduni students, our mental health and education!#SaveSheffieldArchaeology
Congratulations to @sheffielduni Provost & Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Gill Valentine, who has been elected as a fellow of @BritishAcademy_ in recognition of her world-leading work as a social geographer and her commitment to equality and diversity sheffield.ac.uk/news/nr/prof…

What sort of 'review' recommends closing a world-leading archaeology department?
@sheffielduni management are making a huge mistake and they are in for a fight

After an extremely tough year, I think I can speak on behalf of most students when I say that Gill Valentine adding a mental health link at the bottom of her email yesterday after trying to destroy our department and our futures is extremely insulting

Retweet if you think @sheffielduni should fire its executive board and use the savings to invest in @UniShefArch

. @UniShefArch is one of the few Archaeology departments which offers entry adult learners with non-traditional qualifications (in partnership with @ShefUniDLL ). This is a really important vehicle for diversifying the profession. #ArchaeologistsMadeInSheffield
You never forget your first trench. Thank you @sheffielduni @ShefUniDLL #SaveSheffieldArchaeology
