Does anyone know why #JohnLennon has his Epiphone casino in the David Frost Hey Jude performances, when an acoustic guitar would have been more appropriate? I mean, they go to the trouble of giving George a bass… #TheBeatles
Selling mince pies in August is corporate nonsense, but putting up Xmas decorations before Bonfire Night is barking mad.

Despite the somewhat cheesy sleeve (not the Gretsch, that’s far from cheesy), I love this album. Not like, LOVE.

My #StarTrek tribute in a difficult week for the series x
When #StarTrekTNG first appeared in the late 80s I was highly sceptical. I couldn’t conceive of an Enterprise without Kirk at the helm. However, as soon as #PatrickStewart appeared in the centre seat, I knew Star Trek was in safe hands. He was a real pro and brought unrivalled natural class to everything he was in.

#WalterKoenig RIP. His most famous character gave us all hope for a saner future. Thanks for all the great turns x
In a world threatened by AI, war, climate change, politically-driven insanity and greed, I’m gratified to have spent a weekend on here arguing that a) The Beatles are not overrated, b) Bob Dylan is not a bad singer and c) liking the music of David Gilmour does not make you a ‘rock bore’. Time well-spent I feel. At least when the apocalypse comes, we’ll have already worked through these important existential matters.
I saw something on here saying #TheBeatles are ‘overrated’ because their music was ‘formulaic’. Rather than knee-jerk reacting to this comment I think my objective response would be to say, yes it was formulaic - in the beginning. However, the remarkable thing about that band to me was their almost supernatural ability to keep living up to and exceeding the hype, so that they soon became anything but formulaic. The industry grew out of what they did, much like it had with Elvis and on that basis alone, I do think it’s absurd to suggest they were overrated. You can say you don’t like their stuff, but ‘overrated’? No way. That’s just a bloody-minded refusal to accept historical fact.
#DavidGilmour’s guitar work really takes you somewhere - exactly where doesn’t matter; it’s the experience, the journey. Like surfing on a set of waves, but there’s a consistency to it, so that you never feel like falling. Sometimes it flows, sometimes it zaps and pops, but it always holds you.
Weathering out the storm with #DavidGilmour at the Circus Maximus. Sublime. The Webb Sisters adding even more class to his already exquisite show. Interestingly, years ago when they were performing with the late, great #LeonardCohen at the O2, I found myself sharing a Thames clipper en route to the venue with none other than… Mr. Gilmour himself.
If ever there was a recording artist I’d describe as a ‘genius hidden in plain sight’ it would be #Prince. I remember in the 1980s everyone was comparing him to Michael Jackson and that to me completely missed the point. Jacko had his thing going and that was good for him and his fans, but to me Prince was always more compelling. Outrageously talented as a musician and songwriter, there are times when I hear his stuff now and think, “damn that guy was good”.
In #StarTrek, right, one of the greatest TV series ever made, it always amuses me the way they have someone standing by in the transporter room all the time. What’s the point of that exactly??
Sometimes I just need to hear… #EltonJohn at his finest. An absolute tune-crafting legend. Never mind the antics and the bulls*** in the press, somehow through all of that sideshow he managed to create a body of work that’s up there among the greats. Terrific musician.
