Yesterday I asked the team to articulate their why. Here is mine. Dr. David Hawkins describes accountability as the gate between force and power. I understand that to mean something simple: the moment we accept responsibility for our actions and their effects, we recover the power to change them. Accountability turns chaos into order, helplessness into agency, zero into one. Much of modern life is designed to let us surrender that responsibility. We delegate our judgment, identity, money, data, and relationships to trusted third parties. Then we ask those same institutions to account for the power we gave them through systems only they can see and rules only they can change. When power controls its own accounting, accountability becomes optional. But surrender is still a choice. A republic is not a building or an institution. It is a people willing to accept the burden of governing themselves and remaining accountable for the results. We cannot remain free while waiting for someone else to return our freedom. The Republic is not lost and we need not fight to bring it back. It is sitting empty, awaiting our return. This is why I do the work. Every day, I try to accept that my thoughts, my choices, and their effects are my responsibility. By the grace of God, every instant offers the opportunity to begin again, not by denying what came before, but by accounting for it honestly and choosing what happens next. I want to build systems that make this same choice possible at every scale: open, neutral systems in which claims can be verified, power can be audited, and people can coordinate directly with one another. Not a world without institutions, but one in which no institution is above accounting. Not isolation disguised as independence, but sovereign individuals working with trusted peers. Not freedom from responsibility, but freedom through responsibility. Why? Because we get to choose the world we want to live in and if it doesn’t exist yet, we have to build it.

Also: profile earnings show amounts like 3.83 BSV instead of eight decimals, and the source labels next to them no longer get cut off.

On Radio, if you upvalue a song while it's playing, that upvalue counts 5x toward which songs come up next. The rotation follows what listeners are paying for in the moment instead of old totals.

The Ordinals tab used to take 5 to 26 seconds to load. It now reads from a precomputed list and loads in under 2 seconds.

New on Treechat today: channels show who hosts them and what they earn, Radio follows what you pay for while a song plays, and the Ordinals tab is a lot faster. 🧵

Channel cards and headers now show the host, the member count, and how much upvalue the channel's posts earned in the last 30 days. Channels with Host Rewards on also show the share that went to the host.

In 2012 Joel Spolsky argued that the great general-purpose apps are "actually just fancy data structures." Excel is a table. Word is wrapped lines of text. PowerPoint is a stack of slides. None of them is built for conversation, the thing people do most. 🧵

Readers set the order with upvalue, a small payment to the writer. Any upvalued post rises to the top of the feed, however deep in the tree it sits. Conversations got a feed sorted for advertisers. We built Treechat to give them a tree.
