In 2018, when Lula was imprisoned and prevented from contesting Brazil’s presidential election, our dossier examined the crisis facing the country’s democracy.
His return to the presidency through the ballot box in 2022 gave new meaning to that struggle.
Today, as Brazil navigates another critical political conjuncture, the dossier remains a reminder of what was at stake: democracy, popular sovereignty, and the rights won through struggle.

The Continuing Struggle for Reparatory Justice
The wounds of slavery and colonial theft did not close with abolition or independence; they endure in global inequality, and their repair demands truth, law, memory and organised African power.

Capitalist class relations dont stop at their borders. Framing global power as competition between state poles obscures how relations of production, finance, class power & dependence shape both states themselves & the imperialist chain that connects them.
