This ruling from the court is a slap in the face of every college athlete, coach, and fan who has abided by the spirit and letter of league rules for many decades. I will stand with the SEC and the Oklahoma Sooners to ensure that fairness is afforded to all throughout the upcoming season. We have rules for a reason, and we all must uphold those rules - or invite anarchy to infect our ranks.

So just to recap… You have a team that works all year to earn a national seed and their opponent works all year to get to the tournament from a mid-major league. National seed drops 15 runs before 16 outs have been recorded while their ace strikes out 10 and doesn’t allow a hit in 6 innings. They did what they were supposed to do. Rain comes. Both teams sit for hours. NCAA Tournament rules prohibit calling a 14 run game even though it would be considered official in the regular season Now they have to be back at the park in less than 12 hours to burn a pitcher and play baseball at 9 AM, and by the way, Long Island also has to come back at the same time and play 2.5 perfunctory innings before turning around and facing Boston College in a win or go home scenario at 12:00. Georgia, who again, earned the right to host a regional, has to deal with an awkward 6-7 hour window of rest before a 5:00 start time vs Liberty. That means they have to cool down, try to get some rest while staying mentally ready, and warm back up for another game. Oh and we don’t even know if that other game will actually start at 5:00 because another band of weather is rolling through. It seems to me like the host just lost it’s advantage because the NCAA rules don’t allow everyone involved to do the sensible thing and call a 14-run game on a weekend where there is inclement weather in the forecast for the entirety of the regional. I’m all for playing the games, and I am all for waiting around to see if you can finish tonight, but asking Georgia and Long Island to resume at 9 AM really isn’t fair to either team. If Long Island comes out tomorrow AM on a Wheaties high and pulls off the miracle of miracles to erase that 15-1 deficit then I will happily eat a big bowl of shit (metaphorically), but many of the macro issues in college sports right now exist because the NCAA wanted to paint every line black or white. This feels like another instance where nobody considered a grey scenario until it was too late. I just feel like maybe we could call this one good if Long Island was willing to go along with it. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I gotta imagine they’d prefer to turn their attention to the next game too
