When Caitlin passed away, the brilliant Royal Victoria Hospital offered PJs or a small night dress. Unfortunately they were too small.

In March this year, my niece Caitlin-Rose passed away after she was knocked down after getting off her school bus. Her mummy wants to help other children who need the help of emergency care in Caitlin-Rose’s memory.

Yesterday’s announcement by the Infrastructure Minister of proposed legislative bus safety changes is hopefully the beginning of the end of more young people losing their lives in what should be a safe journey from school to home. Let’s hope it’s in place sooner rather than later

Caitlin isn’t the first child to get knocked down after getting off a school bus. Rosemary and Bob Hogg lost their 13 year old daughter Caitlin in December 2022. Amelia O’Neill’s two children Fintan and Mary miraculously survived after being struck by a car in 2017.

Like many children living in rural areas, Caitlin was dropped off on a road where the speed limit can be up to 60mph. Within seconds of getting off her bus to make the short walk home, she was hit by a car.
