I hope that next year at The Streamer Awards, that when the category of Best Vtuber is introduced, there will be an acknowledgement of the creativity of the medium. I get poking fun and riffing during awards shows, but usually there is also an acknowledgement of the impact of that category. We are constantly fighting how we are perceived and fighting for validity in the industry by the larger non vtuber space. Yes, we have inside jokes like ‘uwu’ and ‘ara ara’. But we also have ground breaking game changers whose work rivals Hollywood Animation Studios, record breaking charity milestones, innovative technicians and amazing artists. I also want to be clear, QT is incredible for mounting this show year after year, esp in the face of vitriol. She is doing so much because, like in her closing speech, an event like this promotes togetherness in the streaming industry which we need (and btw looking so fab while doing it!). I don’t know who writes what or takes care of the introductions of the categories. I also don’t pretend to know the challenges of independently running an award show with so many moving parts. It’d just be nice for us to be acknowledged on the same level as other streamers, at an event created by and for streamers, you know?
