A lot of us may have falling on hard times for the last few years and tried to find alternate ways to sell our art, but we never changed our style to jump on a fad or meme and still elevated our craft, never changed personalities when collectors entered gc’s and stand on business in DMs and in public. I’ve also seen some artists completely change the way they talk when a collector enters the group chat and this includes “bluechips” as well. It’s a hell of a code switch moment when you see it in real time, imagine when you then see their art also change to cater to what $$$$ collects 😬

let’s be honest, artists aren’t always innocent in this ecosystem either. we complain about gatekeepers, then spend hours trying to get noticed by them. we criticize hype, then celebrate when someone influential mentions our name. we hate the hierarchy, unless we’re finally invited to sit at the table. apparently, artistic integrity becomes a lot easier to discuss when your rent is already paid

Not sure this is a fair question maybe if you said something like challenge art market status quo that still includes artists finding sustainable means to keep creating / id pick that But whenever I see artist having to choose between getting paid or changing the system it bothers me.
