I can't speak for anyone else, but whenever I read a book, I always feel like my writing improves immensely for a while. Like a little boost. The flow is good too. And when I stop reading, my writing does a very sharp decline, and the flow goes choppy. It's a fight.

Anyone who didn’t read fics pre ao3 but uses ao3 and complains about ao3’s lack of censorship need to read the page on fanlore for ff nets purge of 2002 and 2012
62,000 works deleted unexpectedly overnight in 2012. A devastating number and thanks to ao3 we will not see it again
