High blood pressure rarely has noticeable symptoms but significantly increases your risk of stroke. >4 million people are estimated to be living with undetected / untreated hypertension in England & the only way to find out if your blood pressure is high, is to have it checked.
Today is #StrokePreventionDay. High blood pressure significantly increases your risk of having a stroke. Around 1 in 4 adults in the UK have high blood pressure, but many don’t know it. Find out how to get checked and manage your risk. nhs.uk/bloodpressure

Stroke physicians deal with death & dying—can we do it better? “Dying after a stroke is different from dying from cancer. It comes on suddenly & prognosis is uncertain.” Prof Rowan Harwood spoke about the need for rigorous, shared decision-making for end-of-life care. #UKSF24

When speaking about sex after stroke at #UKSF24, Jennifer Godber shared a quote from a carer. ‘When I looked at my partner, I no longer saw him, I just saw a to-do list.’ The challenges faced by stroke-affected couples can only be addressed if spoken about openly and honestly.

One in 20 stroke survivors will experience hallucinations or delusions. Hallucinations cause people to smell, taste or feel things that aren't there, while delusions cause strong beliefs that are untrue. For more information about causes and treatments: bit.ly/3ufbggP
