Our university lost three amazing people six years ago to a horrible hate crime. Today, we honor their lives and remember our commitment to building a stronger community together.

We would like to uplift the names and families of individuals we have recently lost due to racist violence. These individuals, and other victims of racism and hatred, did not deserve to die. We have the power to honor their lives and ensure that these deaths weren’t in vain ✊🏾

There were 50 victims of the Christchurch shooting, so we laid out 50 prayer rugs, collected from various members of the Muslim Students Association. The on-and-off sun shower misted the plush fabric and the battery-powered candles we laid atop them.

The condemnable & horrific rape & murder of little Zainab exposes once again how vulnerable our children are in our society. This is not the first time such horrific acts have happened. We have to act swiftly to punish the guilty & ensure that our children are better protected.
