My cousin got raped and ended up pregnant. Her parents, very religious, refused to let her abort, they said it was “against god’s will,” but really it was all about money. The guy who did it was wealthy, and that’s why they were so insistent she carry the pregnancy. She came to my mom crying and told her everything. My mom was furious, she couldn’t believe what her sister and brother in law were doing to their own child. She asked how they could force her to carry it, and they just shrugged and said it was none of our business. After that, my mom cut ties with her sister and told them she’d raise my cousin herself because she wasn’t safe in that house. But in the end, the law sided with her parents, they are her legal guardians, not my mom. My cousin had to carry the pregnancy, stop school, and put her whole life on hold. The guy who did it went on with his life like nothing happened. Her parents used their religion to justify forcing her to stay while she lost her freedom, her independence, and her teenage years. She was only 16 at the time, and the whole thing was just heartbreaking

My classmate was raped on her way back home from university and got pregnant, but couldn’t get an abortion due to the laws. She had to drop out of university where she was studying medicine.
