ALEX EALA is into the SEMIS of the Hong Kong Open 2026 without dropping a set! Solid performance so far! Her semifinal match with the 4th seed Maria Sakkari is scheduled not before 4pm local time today. What happens after their match? Let's check and see. Alex now sits at #16 in the Live WTA rankings with 2,327 points. If she WINS - She'll most likely be at #15 with 2,392 points (not solid yet since it will just be a 6-point difference with Cirstea's 2,386 points) HOWEVER, if she wins this tournament, she may sit comfortably at #15 with estimated points of 2,479(+-). If she LOSES - She's projected to be at #16 next week. Still a new career high. BUT here's the catch. Should Sorana Cirstea formally retires this season, there's a big chance that she will be removed from the WTA Rankings at the end of 2026 or on the date listed on her retirement form, whichever is earlier. With this, even if Alex loses her match with Sakkari later, Alex will still most likely end the year at #15. Laban! Vamos! 🎾Tennis🎾
