Josh Okogie says having an entourage in the NBA is needed and thinks people misunderstand why so many NBA players have their friends live with them because they can be on the road for weeks at a time, their schedules are public, so people can literally know their house is empty and when to rob them “I had my homies living with me. They had the dogs, they packed the house up, and they were people I had there that helped me out with that type of stuff. You need that, though.” “There are so many things. In the NFL, it’s easier to have a normal life because you don’t leave the house that often. Whatever city you’re in, you live there. If I was on the Atlanta Falcons, I’m only leaving the house maybe Wednesday for a Thursday night game, Sunday for a Monday night game, or Saturday for a Sunday game. Then after the game, I’m flying back home. If I have two home games in a row, I’m probably home for three weeks without leaving.” “But in the NBA, we’ll leave for two weeks, come back, leave again. And just from a safety perspective, the thing people don’t understand is our schedules are public. People know when you’re not home. People can rob your house and see, ‘Oh, I don’t know when he comes back home. I see him on TV.’ They’ll rob your house while they’re watching you on TV.” “So people don’t understand that you need that support. Like I said, I have dogs. You still need the dogs walked, and you don’t want to give your dogs to boarding companies because you don’t know what they’re doing with your dogs.” “And if I’m doing something at my house but I’m not home, they can help me out and facilitate everything. Also, after a long game, because we play a lot of games, sometimes you just need somebody to talk to. You need to go grab some wine. Your homies are right there the whole season.” “Some of them will fly home and come through. Parents will fly in. If you’re playing on a championship team, you’re in your market from September to June. That’s nine months. So you need somebody to be able to chop it up with through the ups and downs of every season and kind of help you navigate the season as well.”

Nick Saban…one of America’s winningest coaches sprinkling the room with gold-plated philosophical nuggets… When organisations, clubs, teams, coaches, and players are result-oriented…when their emotion wraps tightly around the outcome of games…then chaos can ensue. A rollercoaster ride. One week up, the next week down. Waves of positivity and negativity that capture attention and encircle collective confidence… As Coach Saban quite correctly points out…do the same great things every damned day no matter what. Imprint a great process on the hearts and minds of people across the organisation and stick to that doctrine daily. Don’t move. Don’t budge. Don’t waiver. Just stick…right there…to that process… …and let the outcomes follow. Of course, that doesn’t mean we don’t keep a close eye on the effectiveness and efficacy of that process. A critical glance across what we say and what we do is a must in order to keep the process optimum. A student of process…the mastery of process execution! But, consistent high performance under pressure requires the same tangible actions and behaviours across departments, in training, within the dining hall and meeting areas…and most crucially in competitive games. It’s nothing new…but ‘sticking to the process’ is a truism that must be adhered to… (Video from @thewinningdiff1)

“I refuse to lose mentally” Rafa Nadal gave himself permission to falter technically…but he was adamant about his grip on his mental game… “𝐈’𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥. 𝐈’𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞. 𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭. 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐦𝐲 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭” This is why I ensure the competitors I work with put mindset first going into a competitive game. That isn’t to suggest they ignore the technical, tactical, physical. On the contrary, putting mindset first is a call to better ensure optimal technique, tactical dominance, physical prowess. “𝐈’𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥. 𝐈’𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞. 𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭. 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐦𝐲 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭” Mindset…in the form of attention, intensity, and intent…is mind and body. It’s from head to feet. It’s every action and every behaviour. It’s every movement and every motion. “I refuse to lose mentally” And so Rafa Nadal, when he competed, would go again and go again and go again. He would go again and again and again…nothing and no one would remove him from his High Performance Mindset… As I write in my new book, Compete… A missed point…go again… A mistake made…go again… A goal down…go again… A goal up…go again… A lost duel…go again… Refuse to lose mentally…

Jeff Teague says when he played for Boston it was always some tension between Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown: “It wasn’t bad tension. It was competitive tension. Like, JB was the number 3 pick. JT came the next year number 3 pick. JT started immediately. JB had to work for his, you know what I mean? It was just a little competitive beef like they think he better than me kind of thing. So JB always been for the fight like, JB had his time last year. JT was out. He showed what he can do that he was an elite player. So now JB like I want to be in them same conversations they put your name in.”
Jeff Teague says Victor Wembanyama is overrated: “When you say rated because they have him rated the best player in the league? He is not the greatest player I’ve ever seen. He’s a top 10 player in the league and he’s like number 10.”
