1774: they blew tobacco smoke up drowning victims' backsides to revive them, and the kits hung along the Thames like lifebuoys.
1863: they sold cocaine wine as a daily tonic, and a pope pinned a gold medal on it.
1898: they sold heroin as a cough medicine, and spooned it into coughing children.
1918: they sold radium water as a health drink, and the millionaire who drank 1,400 bottles was buried in a lead-lined coffin with most of his jaw gone.
1921: they put lead in petrol, and Britain kept it in the pumps until 2000.
1930s: they X-rayed children's feet in shoe shops, and kids queued to watch their toes wiggle on the screen.
1940s: they rubbed mercury teething powder into babies' gums, and about 1 in 500 of those babies was poisoned.
1946: they sold cigarettes on the line that more doctors smoked their brand, and put a man in a white coat on the advert.
1949: they gave the lobotomy a Nobel Prize, and doctors went in through the eye socket with an ice pick.
1952: they sold a cigarette filter made of asbestos as the greatest health protection in smoking history, and smokers drew it into their lungs with every puff.
1957: they sold thalidomide to pregnant women for morning sickness, and around 10,000 babies were born with missing or shortened limbs.
1960s: they sold margarine as the heart-healthy fat, and spread trans fat on a generation's toast.
1996: they sold OxyContin as barely addictive, and started an overdose epidemic.
1999: they sold Vioxx for sore joints, and pulled it five years later after tens of thousands of heart attacks.
2026: they're selling seed oil as the heart-healthy fat, and it's in almost every packet in your kitchen.
Every one of these came with an expert's blessing and the same total certainty.
The people telling you which fat to fear today sit in the same chairs as the ones who put radium in the water and a doctor on the cigarette packet, and they're every bit as sure.
"The experts recommend it" has the longest body count in medicine.

I personally think one of the biggest problems in psychology in general, is the lack of connection. When using psychedelics in treatment, this lack of connection potentially makes it harder to get people on "the right track" if they somehow have a difficult time during the trip.
Another is the lack of personal experience with the drugs. "Detachment" was just a word until I tried ketamine. The feeling of just losing contact with your body can freak people out if not aware. And then it's the breathing...
I just realized while writing this, that unless one is really sure about their lung health, they should probably get a spirometry test done before going hero doses. My "working theory" is that the drugs kind of resets some adjustment value involved in one's autonomous breathing programming, making it appear that breathing is somehow problematic, and that one just have to keep some focus on it. This can be frightening to some, but I think even to most it has a negative impact, mostly by keeping one from achieving ego death.
In this state I feel free to look past ego's hidden defence mechanisms. Our minds are more or less relational databases. A trip can make one aware of relations that are hidden or non obvious.
Feeling that you both have a problem breathing and losing not only control, but contact at all with your body, is probably not what I would recommend to someone with i.e. a heart problem and no experience at all with mind altering drugs.

After a century of getting the shaft by both the red and blue parties American cannabis aficionados cheering for either must be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.
It's essential to recognize that neither are on your side and the Uniparty must be burnt to the ground, ASAP.

Data on 35,000+ adults: the more cannabis you’ve used in life, the bigger your hippocampus and the better your brain works after 40!
People who had ever used cannabis tended to have larger brain volume in key areas that are full of natural cannabis-like receptors (especially the hippocampus, amygdala, caudate, and putamen – these areas are important for memory, emotions, learning, and movement).
The more cannabis someone had used in their lifetime, the larger these brain areas were and the better they performed on tests of learning, processing speed, and short-term memory.

Why would European countries ruin their own economies in order to fight to the last Ukrainian? - Prof Richard Wolff
Prof Wolff believes that they want to cash in on the disintegration of Russia.
➡️ They also want to appear powerful; to restore their global image as colonisers. The EU as powerhouse, as a world power.
The opposite will happen. Europe will suffer a hangover for 20 years, which no tablet can cure.

No we all have to agree Norm Macdonald 99% straight out starts talking without a plan because this is quintessential Norm.
Tell me why he had a problem with dog prices
I watched this old Norm Macdonald set from Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and what gets me is how he turns buying a dog into an entire economic crisis.
He starts by complaining that dogs have become too expensive. The salesman wants $500. Norm’s budget? Two dollars.
And he says it with the seriousness of a man who has done the maths and refuses to be financially bullied by a dog.
I love how ordinary the starting point is. You can almost see where a normal comedian would take it. Norm takes a different road.

University debate: "The Blue Zones prove a plant-based diet is the key to longevity."
Vegan: "Five places on earth where people routinely reach 100. Okinawa, Sardinia, Ikaria, Nicoya, Loma Linda. The common thread is beans, greens, wholegrains and barely any meat. It's the strongest longevity evidence we have."
Anthropologist: "What else do the five have in common?"
Vegan: "Community. Purpose. Walking."
Anthropologist: "Terrible paperwork. Four of the five are remote islands or hill districts with poor birth records, and the fifth is a church. When a researcher went through the data, the places with the most centenarians were the places with the worst record-keeping and the most pension fraud."
Vegan: "That's a slur on old people."
Anthropologist: "In 2010 Japan went looking for its registered centenarians and couldn't find 230,000 of them. Some had been dead for decades with the family collecting the pension. Greece found about 9,000 pensioners over 100 who turned out to be in the cemetery. Okinawa's records were destroyed in the war and rewritten from memory."
Vegan: "Even so, the diet in those places..."
Anthropologist: "Say what it was."
Vegan: "Sweet potato, in Okinawa."
Anthropologist: "And pork. Every part of the pig, cooked in lard, the highest pork intake in Japan. The Okinawan word for a feast means 'pig'. Sardinia?"
Vegan: "Beans and bread."
Anthropologist: "Sheep. The Sardinian shepherds you're quoting live on pecorino, lamb and a glass of red. Ikaria is goat and goat's milk. Nicoya eats more eggs and pork than the rest of Costa Rica. Loma Linda is the one true vegetarian zone, and they also don't smoke, drink or divorce. Take the meat out of the other four and the sum doesn't move."
Vegan: "The man who wrote the book spent years there."
Anthropologist: "He sells the book. The researcher who checked the records got an Ig Nobel prize for it, which is what science gives you for pointing out the emperor's birth certificate is missing."
Vegan: "So you're saying nobody there is old."
Anthropologist: "I'm saying the oldest-looking data on earth tends to be in the places where nobody can check it, and when you do check, the diet turns out to be pig."
Vegan: "Then what's the real Blue Zone?"
Anthropologist: "Hong Kong. Longest life expectancy on the planet, immaculate records, and the highest meat consumption in Asia. It's not in the book because you can't sell beans with it."
Moderator: "Time."
Vegan: "I've been to Okinawa."
Anthropologist: "What did they serve you?"
Vegan: "..."
Anthropologist: "It's all right. Everyone says pork eventually."
