Latest status: Still waiting in Australia.
Tesla continues rolling out FSD V14.3 Lite to HW3 vehicles in North America, while Australia’s FSD V14.3.12 rollout remains restricted to HW4 vehicles.
Australian HW3 vehicles are receiving software update 2026.38.6.1, but its published release notes contain general features, security improvements and bug fixes. There is no confirmed FSD V14 Lite activation.
For Australian HW3 owners, particularly those who purchased FSD years ago, the situation remains frustratingly unchanged:
• No confirmed Australian HW3 FSD release date.
• No published timetable for V14 Lite availability.
• No confirmed free HW4 hardware retrofit programme.
• No extension of FSD licence-transfer eligibility beyond 31 March 2026.
• No announced Australian HW3-specific refund or compensation arrangement.
• No confirmed Australian regulatory remedy for early purchasers.
Regulatory developments:
An existing Australian Tesla class action concerning Autopilot representations, phantom braking and battery range remains one to watch, with court proceedings reportedly scheduled for 12 November 2026.
However, this action does not automatically establish eligibility or a remedy for every early HW3 FSD purchaser.
Australian Consumer Law rights also remain separate from Tesla’s ordinary refund conditions.
The growing contradiction:
Tesla continues promoting FSD’s capabilities and safety benefits in Australia, while customers who purchased the technology years before HW4 existed remain unable to access it.
As a 2021 Model 3 Long Range HW3 owner who purchased FSD on 21 March 2021, I find it increasingly difficult to reconcile Tesla’s technological achievements with its obligations to early customers.
The issue is no longer simply whether HW3 can eventually run a reduced version of FSD. It’s whether Tesla will honour the expectations of customers who paid upfront for technology that has since outgrown their vehicles.
Even if V14 Lite eventually arrives in Australia, supervised driving assistance does not fulfil the original expectation of unsupervised autonomy.
2,052 days since purchase. 126 days since V14 Lite reached US HW3 owners. Still no Australian release date, free hardware upgrade, licence-transfer pathway or announced resolution.
Early adopters shouldn’t become forgotten adopters.
Tesla’s technological progress is impressive. Its treatment of early FSD purchasers deserves equal scrutiny.
