2027: I'm ready to take political bullet for Tinubu — Uba Sani
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, insisting that his decision is based on conviction despite Nigeria’s economic challenges.
According to Daily Trust, Sani made the declaration during an interview on Trust TV’s Daily Politics programme on Tuesday.
“I have no apology supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I will continue to support him till the last minute,” he said.
Asked whether he would take a political bullet for Tinubu, Sani replied:
“I can tell you today, tomorrow, and next tomorrow, that I will be vindicated.”
The governor traced his relationship with Tinubu to their involvement in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle in 1994.
He also cited federal projects benefiting Kaduna, including four university initiatives and the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road reconstruction.
Sani maintained that his support reflected their shared political history and what he described as Tinubu’s contributions to Kaduna’s development.
Labour insists on ₦500,000 minimum wage despite FG’s ₦70,000 transport allowance
Organised labour has reaffirmed its demand for a ₦500,000 national minimum wage despite the Federal Government’s approval of a ₦70,000 monthly transport allowance for workers.
According to Daily Post, Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council Secretary Gbenga Olowoyo disclosed this during an ARISE News interview on Tuesday.
Olowoyo welcomed the six-month transport intervention, scheduled to begin in November 2026, describing it as temporary relief amid rising living costs.
“The template of N500,000 is still subsisting. And at the same time, if government is able to dance around N500,000, we would be alright to support the President. So I want to believe that, like I told you, we are not going to be rigid, but at the same time, we’ll be reasonable,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the government would honour the agreement.
Labour also expects a tripartite committee to negotiate a new minimum wage before the transport intervention expires in April 2027.

What Arteta said after Arsenal’s loss to Fleetwood
Mikel Arteta has spoken to the press following our defeat on penalties to Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup fourth round.
The 10-player Gunners lost out 5-3 on spot-kicks at Highbury Stadium, after a 1-1 draw inside 90 minutes during which Viktor Gyokeres netted his first of the season.
We now switch our attention to Sunday’s huge Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
Here’s every word from the boss following Tuesday’s tie:
on his reflection of the night:
First of all, congratulations to Fleetwood. In the manner they did it, the atmosphere they created. I have nothing to fault the players for their attitude and intensity throughout the game, with 11 and with 10, but when you are playing in that superior way, you have to give nothing to the opponent. When we create the volume of shots and chances we did, you have to score three, four or five. You capitalise on it. If you don’t, there are no margins, and that’s the reality. Then you have to wait and get through the round on penalties, and we didn’t do that. The probability was low with the way the game was panning out, but it’s football and still with low probability, there is always a chance you could be out of the cup.
on Max Dowman’s red card:
I haven’t seen it back, and with the camera you can’t really see what happens. The decision was made by the referee, and that’s it. Even with 10 men, we had three big chances to score.
on whether Max’s talent could see him targeted by opponents:
We know when we prepare the context of the match, we’re very clear on what to expect. Emotionally, we have to dominate, but we’re very clear.
on what he said to Max on the sideline:
It’s something that we discussed before the game.
on the ‘magic’ of English football through these cup competitions:
This competition and football in this country is like this. The belief and conviction people have is because there is a history related to it. Unfortunately, we didn’t want to go through this – we are extremely sad – but at the same time, we need to congratulate the opponent.
on any potential injuries or selection regrets among the absent players:
No, Calafiori was out, Noni was out with an ankle, and Declan was feeling a problem the other day, which is why I had to substitute him.
on any prior conversations with Max about being fouled regularly:
We’re not going to discuss that here and now
Spanish FA fines Barcelona €602 after Atletico Madrid dispute over Julian Alvarez
Barcelona have been fined €602 (£503) by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) following a complaint by Atletico Madrid over their illegal pursuit of striker Julian Alvarez, The Independent reported.
The dispute centered on allegations that Barcelona approached Alvarez—who remains under contract at Atletico until June 2030—without notifying his club in writing.
The penalty was issued under Article 133 of the federation’s regulations, while FIFA declared it lacked jurisdiction after Atletico also submitted a complaint to football’s governing body.
Alvarez, who publicly expressed a desire to join Barcelona during the 2026 World Cup, recently apologized to Atletico fans after scoring the winning goal against Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday.
“It was a mistake. I understand why the fans are angry. If I were a fan, I’d be angry too. Especially given how they’ve supported me since I arrived,” Alvarez stated.
The Argentine forward ultimately stayed at Atletico following interest from both Barcelona and Arsenal during the summer transfer window.
Andoni Iraola confirms Liverpool injury blows with Szoboszlai and Muñoz doubts for Chelsea tie
Liverpool face fresh selection concerns ahead of their Carabao Cup last-16 tie against Chelsea, with head coach Andoni Iraola confirming several key injury doubts, EPL Index reported.
Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai remains a major concern after suffering a recurring hamstring issue against Brentford, while Victor Muñoz is also expected to miss out due to a knee injury.
Jeremie Frimpong is sidelined for several weeks with a muscle problem, though Florian Wirtz could return following a minor knock.
“We still have to wait,” Iraola told reporters at his pre-match press conference. “We train later. Florian (Wirtz) was quite fine and optimistic he would be available. With Dom (Szoboszlai) and Victor (Munoz), I’m not so sure. I don’t want to say no, but I think it’s more difficult than Florian.”
Chelsea also have fitness worries, with João Pedro and Reece James set to miss out. Expecting a high-intensity battle against Xabi Alonso’s side, Iraola added: “Nowadays all the teams are quite intense, not just sitting in a block. They want to press, and there won’t be many spaces.”
Arteta fumes at Max Dowman after red card in Arsenal’s shock Cup exit
Mikel Arteta was seen angrily scolding 16-year-old Max Dowman after the Arsenal starlet was sent off during a shock Carabao Cup fourth-round exit to League Two side Fleetwood, Daily Mail reported.
The teenage winger received a straight red card in the closing stages for kicking out at Harrison Neal following a sliding challenge, triggering a touchline melee. As Dowman walked off, a furious Arteta approached and sternly addressed the youngster.
Speaking on Sky Sports, former Arsenal player Paul Merson criticized the exchange, stating: “This didn’t look good to me at all. For me, I didn’t like that.”
The dismissal capped a dismal night for the Premier League champions, who lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Fleetwood took the lead through Aaron Loupalo-Bi before Viktor Gyokeres equalized, but Bruno Guimaraes missed his spot-kick in the shootout as Fleetwood converted all five penalties to reach the quarter-finals.
Raphinha sparks controversy after allegedly 'liking' post questioning Harry Kane's Ballon d'Or win
Barcelona winger Raphinha has raised eyebrows following his social media activity after Harry Kane won the 2026 Ballon d’Or award, GiveMeSport reported.
Kane scooped the prestigious honor at the London Palladium ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal after netting 73 goals for club and country in the 2025/2026 season.
However, Spanish outlet SPORT reported that Raphinha allegedly liked a video by content creator Dani Quintana questioning the award’s voting criteria.
In the clip, Quintana argued: “They gave Harry Kane the Ballon d’Or for the same reasons that kept Raphinha in fifth place last year… Kane is a fantastic player, but the question is: Why wasn’t the same standard applied to Raphinha?”
Accepting the award, an emotional Kane said: “Wow. Wow, wow, wow. First of all… I’m almost speechless. Luckily I have this list here! Thank you again to France Football for the Ballon d’Or, for putting on this amazing event.”
Arsenal Player Ratings: Kai Havertz misses earned 4.5/10 as Gunners exit Cup in Fleetwood
Premier League champions Arsenal suffered a stunning defeat in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, falling to League Two side Fleetwood Town in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw at Highbury Stadium.
Mikel Arteta opted for nine changes to his starting lineup, but the rotated side struggled to build momentum, particularly after an early eight-minute delay caused by a drone flying over the pitch.
Fleetwood took advantage of the visitors’ sluggish start when Aaron Loupalo-Bi capitalized on a defensive error to put the hosts ahead before halftime.
Although substitute Martin Odegaard ignited a second-half resurgence, setting up Viktor Gyokeres for a scrappy equalizer, Arsenal’s night went from bad to worse when 16-year-old Max Dowman received a straight red card late in the game for kicking out at Harrison Neal.
Fleetwood remained flawless from the spot to secure a historic 5-3 shootout win, while several Gunners failed to live up to expectations.
Arsenal Player Ratings
Illan Meslier — 5/10
Replacing Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal, Meslier had a night to forget. He was beaten too easily for Fleetwood’s opening goal, allowing the shot to slip past him when he should have done better to keep it out.
Jurrien Timber — 5/10
Timber pushed forward aggressively into dangerous areas on the right wing, but his final delivery consistently let him down. He repeatedly misplayed passes or lost his footing before being hooked at the break.
Marli Salmon — 3/10
A nightmarish outing for the young central defender. Salmon was physically outmatched by Loupalo-Bi for Fleetwood’s goal, getting turned easily and failing to recover with a desperation tackle.
Cristhian Mosquera — 6/10
Mosquera had his hands full dealing with the physicality of Ched Evans. While he hesitated at times and allowed the ball to bounce dangerously, he grew more assertive as the match progressed and produced several key clearances.
Piero Hincapie — 6/10
The defender missed a golden opportunity to score early on with a close-range header. Otherwise, he was active, demanded the ball, and held his ground despite taking a heavy, unpunished challenge along the touchline.
Martin Zubimendi — 5/10
Zubimendi struggled to exert his usual calm influence in midfield. He looked unusually rushed in possession, turned over the ball in critical areas, and was second-best in physical duels.
Myles Lewis-Skelly — 6/10
The youngster showed commendable work ethic throughout his time on the pitch. He constantly made himself available to receive the ball and came close to scoring with a fine curling effort that drifted just wide.
Max Dowman — 5/10
It was an eventful and ultimately frustrating night for the 16-year-old. After dragging a clear first-half chance wide and creating a few opportunities for teammates, his evening ended prematurely when he was shown a straight red card for an apparent kick-out at Harrison Neal.
Kai Havertz — 4.5/10
Operating as the central attacking midfielder, Havertz put in plenty of physical effort but was exceptionally wasteful in front of goal. He failed to convert a close-range header from Dowman’s cross and squandered two more excellent chances in the second half.
Ceadach O’Neill — 6.5/10
After finding space hard to come by in the first half, O’Neill turned into Arsenal’s main spark after the break. He delivered the dangerous cross that led to Gyokeres’ equalizer and repeatedly unpicked the Fleetwood defense.
Viktor Gyokeres — 6/10
Gyokeres was largely anonymous in the opening 45 minutes, struggling to assert himself against fourth-tier opposition. However, he made his mark early in the second half by bundling home a scrappy finish to drag Arsenal back into the tie.

Switzerland clears Xhaka, Embolo for national team return
Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka and striker Breel Embolo will be eligible for national team selection next month, following an investigation into their use of forged COVID-19 vaccination certificates, Punch reports.
The Swiss Football Association confirmed the pair could feature in manager Murat Yakin’s squad for November’s Nations League fixtures against Slovenia and Scotland. Both players were fined 150,000 Swiss francs each, suspended for two years, after admitting to using fake certificates to travel and compete in 2022.
National team director Pierluigi Tami said the decision considered “the specific circumstances of both cases, the concluded legal proceedings, and the sporting consequences already implemented.” Xhaka retains the captaincy for now, though Yakin will confirm his final squad on November 5

No clear winner in Israel's election, first exit polls show
Early exit poll results are showing Netanyahu’s coalition and the opposition coalition both falling short of the seats needed for a majority.
🇮🇱 As Israel votes today, the final polls point to no clear winner.
Netanyahu bloc: 50
Opposition bloc: 54
Arab-led parties: ~13
Needed to govern: 61
Neither side gets there alone. Here are the 5 ways this could play out 👇
1. Opposition wins outright. If Eisenkot’s bloc hits 61, Yashar, Bennett & Lapid’s bloc, Liberman, and the Democrats form a government. The catch: Bennett and Liberman have been cool on Eisenkot as PM.
2. Netanyahu wins another term. If his bloc hits 61, he rebuilds the current coalition with Shas, UTJ, Ben-Gvir and Smotrich. Polls rated this the least likely outcome.
3. Minority government. Eisenkot could take office without 61 if Arab parties abstain on the confidence vote. The catch: Liberman has ruled it out.
4. Unity government. Netanyahu and Eisenkot share power, possibly rotating as PM. Both have publicly rejected it, but a long deadlock could push President Herzog to broker one.
5. Deadlock. No one reaches a majority, the Knesset dissolves, and Israel votes again, with Netanyahu staying on as caretaker PM in the meantime.
What to watch: exit polls when voting closes tonight, official results by Nov 4, and up to 6 weeks of coalition talks after that. These are pre-election polls, not results.

FG approves N70,000 monthly transport support for public workers
The Federal Government has approved a N70,000 monthly transport intervention for public service workers across all levels for six months, beginning in November 2026.
According to The PUNCH, the decision followed a conciliation meeting between the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress in Abuja on Tuesday.
The government also approved payment of peculiar allowance arrears effective from May 1, 2026, in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November.
However, both parties failed to agree on the effective date for implementing a new national minimum wage, although they agreed that a Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee would begin work immediately.
The memorandum stated: “That transport intervention of Seventy Thousand Naira (N70,000) commencing from November 2026 would be paid across all levels for a period of six months.”
The agreement also covers health workers’ arrears, tax relief proposals and hazard allowances for agricultural officers.
State police will not work effectively unless... Obasa
Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa has said state police cannot function effectively if substantial control remains with the Federal Government.
According to Daily Post, Obasa spoke during plenary on Tuesday as lawmakers endorsed the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2026, establishing State Police Services.
Obasa welcomed the proposal but argued that true federalism required states to exercise greater authority over their security structures.
“Even though we are happy that we are having state police, our interests and positions have not been well taken care of in this alteration. You would realise that the major control still lies at the centre.
“There is a provision that says where there is a conflict between the State Assembly and National Assembly, the federal prevails. But it is still a step forward. I want to believe that there is hope in the future that will give total control to the state.”
The Assembly subsequently endorsed the proposed amendment.
Beverly Hills mansion raided by feds in Eric Swalwell investigation
The FBI has raided a Beverly Hills mansion in connection with the investigation into disgraced former California congressman Eric Swalwell, with the raid linked to a sex worker, according to sources who spoke to the New York Post.
Tuesday’s raid targeted the home of billionaire Stephen Cloobeck, who had prominently backed Swalwell’s gubernatorial run and previously let him stay at his mansion.
Cloobeck cut ties with Swalwell after allegations surfaced that the former congressman sexually assaulted multiple women, including former staffers. “I am no longer associated with a man that takes advantage of women,” Cloobeck said. “I support women’s rights.”
A senior law enforcement official told the outlet the raid was connected to a sex worker but gave no further details. The raid came a day after Cloobeck celebrated his birthday at a Malibu restaurant, with agents reportedly armed with high-powered rifles and night-vision goggles; a source noted Cloobeck kept company servers at the property.
Swalwell is under investigation by multiple prosecutors over the sexual assault allegations, including in New York and California.
He was previously confronted by FBI agents at San Francisco International Airport in August, where his phone and laptop were seized, and agents later executed additional warrants at his Washington, DC home.
One former staffer has accused Swalwell of rape while intoxicated, while another alleged drugging and assault in 2018. Two others say he sent them unsolicited explicit images. Swalwell has denied wrongdoing but dropped his governor’s race and resigned from Congress following the allegations. Cloobeck previously donated over $1 million to Swalwell’s campaign.

“Campaign financing scheme dressed up as infrastructure?" Atiku questions Tinubu’s $20.52bn, €1.045bn loan request
ADC presidential candidate and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has demanded that President Bola Tinubu prove his request for fresh loans of $20.52 billion and €1.045 billion is for the public good and not for his 2027 campaign, The Sun reports.
Tinubu wrote to the National Assembly on Tuesday seeking approval for external loans to finance projects in infrastructure, agriculture and other sectors. In a statement by Phrank Shaibu, director of strategic communication for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku said the president listed broad sectors but gave no project-by-project account of costs, locations or contractors.
Highway concerns
Atiku alleged that the funds could be channelled through the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, now rerouted inland, to political campaigners and favoured contractors. He said he warned on October 12 that Tinubu was reportedly preparing to borrow up to $20 billion tied to the highway, and that he asked the president to confirm or deny it and publish the accounts. According to Atiku, Tinubu did neither, and the new request shows his warning was vindicated.
He questioned the timing, noting an election is barely 12 weeks away, and asked whether the request was “a campaign financing scheme dressed up as infrastructure.”
Calls on lawmakers and lenders
Atiku urged the National Assembly to publish the loan proposal and supporting documents and to scrutinise them rigorously before any decision. He said lawmakers should approve nothing until the president publishes every project, contract, cost, contractor, loan term and repayment obligation, and that none should sign what he called a blank cheque against Nigeria’s future.
He also put local and international lenders on notice. Any loan to what he called a winding-down administration, he said, must meet all constitutional, statutory and due process requirements. If he becomes president, he said, one of his first duties would be to investigate every kobo borrowed, especially in Tinubu’s final year, and any borrowing obtained without proper authorisation would be challenged.
Atiku said families already struggling with the cost of living should not carry debts they did not approve, and that voters could reject such borrowing at the ballot box.
El-Rufai’s medical report shows drug-resistant bacterium in blood test; doctors flag possible sepsis
A blood culture from former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, 66, detected a bacterium resistant to the antibiotic vancomycin, and his doctors listed possible sepsis among their concerns, according to two medical documents dated October 22 reported by Sahara Reporters.
El-Rufai is in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) while it prosecutes him. The documents do not connect his detention to the finding.
A Cerba Lancet Nigeria laboratory report said aerobic and anaerobic blood cultures grew Enterococcus faecium within 24 to 48 hours. It identified the organism as vancomycin-resistant enterococcus, listing vancomycin as resistant and several other antibiotics as effective, including ampicillin, erythromycin, levofloxacin, minocycline and linezolid. The report is marked interim and states: “Final Verified Report to Follow.” The final result is therefore pending.
A separate report from ASK+ Medical & Diagnostics recorded the finding and set out his history and assessment. It describes a man with high blood fats, persistent headaches and insomnia who presented with mild headache and dizziness, with a reported history of low blood pressure. The clinical impression was dehydration with resistant malaria and possible sepsis, with a suspected focus near the navel.
His blood pressure was recorded at 93/70 mmHg, his pulse at 68 beats per minute, his temperature at 36.2°C and his oxygen saturation at 98 per cent on room air. He showed no apparent respiratory or painful distress. Other tests, including a full blood count, malaria test, kidney and liver function tests, fasting lipid profile, blood glucose, urinalysis and HbA1c, were within normal limits.
The documents contain apparent inconsistencies. One section describes him as mildly dehydrated while the physical examination says he was not, and the gentamicin result is presented differently across the laboratory’s aerobic and anaerobic culture sections, which requires clarification from the laboratory.
Despite the normal results elsewhere, the positive blood culture prompted a recommendation for further evaluation. Doctors advised admission for at least three days for observation, intravenous fluids and medication, with the culture and sensitivity results reviewed alongside an infectious disease physician before choosing intravenous antibiotics. The options listed included Augmentin, Gentalex, L-Flox and linezolid, subject to further clinical assessment.
Flavio Bolsonaro reportedly flees Brazil for US after presidential election defeat
Brazilian politician Flavio Bolsonaro has reportedly fled to the United States after refusing to accept defeat in Sunday’s presidential runoff election against incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
According to The Punch, sources confirmed Bolsonaro’s departure on Tuesday despite a court order requiring him to surrender his passports.
The US State Department announced it would issue visas to Bolsonaro and his family “and allow them entry into the United States.”
The 45-year-old senator faces investigations involving alleged corruption, money laundering and financial irregularities, including questions surrounding the financing of a biopic about his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Brazilian authorities reportedly cancelled his passports after he failed to surrender them.
Bolsonaro, who denies wrongdoing, has challenged the election outcome despite his party acknowledging Lula’s victory.
Lula secured approximately 51.8 percent of votes against Bolsonaro’s 48.2 percent.
Authorities have yet to establish how Bolsonaro departed Brazil, raising questions about compliance with the court’s travel restrictions.
