Radhika Bansal's #MeetheMeinKyaHai on Netflix is so sugary, so relentlessly wholesome, that I began to suspect my laptop screen would taste sweet if I licked it.

#Akka doesn't unfold; it pounds you over the head. This thriller is so addicted to loud set pieces, abrupt developments, and expository shortcuts that it forgets the little thing called storytelling.

Daniel Sánchez Arévalo's #CollisionCourse/#Colisión is so obsessed with pulling the rug out from under its audience that it forgets to give us characters worth caring about. Four robbers, countless twists, and a whole lot of nothing.

Be your own emotionally manipulative PR manager.
"If a person's national identity can be so profoundly altered by the loss of memory, how much of that identity was ever truly their own?"
On #UdtaTeer, patriotism, society, #ShahRukhKhan, blind devotion—everything at once:

Bhuvan Bam is a better sketch comedian than storyteller. #Dhindora (on #Netflix) is funny when he plays multiple characters, but the moment it reaches for Bollywood romance, middle-class sentimentality, and life lessons, the cracks begin to show.

Started Srikanth Odela's The Paradise. Couldn't bear this monstrosity beyond 15 minutes. If you want a Paradise worth watching, go with Prasanna Vithanage's drama. It's superior in every respect, including its far more sensible take on the Ramayana than the inane online chatter.
I won't say Dasara is a better film, but now it does look better. Here's what I wrote about it: filmcompanion.in/readers-art…
A thriller can have Stephen Graham, Poorna Jagannathan, a serial killer, and enough grim atmosphere to bury a corpse and still struggle to build suspense. #Nocturne (on #AppleTV from Oct 30) mistakes laying the groundwork for building momentum.

In Karthik Subbaraj's #Dorothy, everyone is a symbol. A film that takes audacious swings at toxic masculinity and patriarchy, yet sometimes reduces its characters to the very ideas it wants us to embrace.

US critics are about to go through what Indian critics went through after reviewing Dhurandhar.
The most interesting thing about #UdtaTeer is that it dares to ask, "What if patriotism is just another inherited identity we never question?" Sadly, it loses its nerve to pursue that question.

If self-sabotage were a competitive sport, #UdtaTeer would be a serious contender for the gold medal. A juicy premise, a gifted comic cast, and considerable political potential—all squandered.
