I asked my ex-boss to fire me. After I almost lost a $1m deal for our fund. But what he said to me after realizing my mistake would go on to impact my career forever. Here’s the full story: I was depressed. That night, I buried my head under my covers imagining Harish's disappointment. I convinced myself that I didn't deserve to work there anymore. But here’s where it all started. It’s 2018. I had just completed my masters in Australia when seniors in my network connected me with my ex-boss (Harish). Harish was the head of the private equity division in one of Singapore’s largest banks. But was looking at newer pastures , and starting to build his own fund. Before my interview, he sent a deal he wanted me to look at and share my thoughts on. While I had no formal education in working with such deals, I was committed to blowing this man out of the water. After hours of research and interrogating my friends in that industry, I hit 'submit' on my email. A few days later, I got on a call with Harish and I was hired. For the next 3 years, Harish scaled the fund to one of Singapore top up & coming investment banking firms. I took on tasks I had no formal experience in like attracting potential stake holders. I kept meeting Harish's expectations, until the day I f*cked up. That day, Harish, yet again, gave me a role I had no experience in. Still I wanted to prove I could do whatever he asked just like the last time. But I made a silly mistake that almost cost us a big deal. Surprisingly, Harish was calm. He showed me my error, taught me how to do better, and offered to take me out for a drink. With embarrassment stamped on my face, I told him I'll go only if he would let me pay for the drink. He complied. While we sat down, waiting for our orders, I broke the silence by telling him to let me leave Silk Partners (our fund). Harish, then shocked, stared me dead in the eyes and said something that stuck with me till this day: “Mistakes are common. If you want people with a skill-set , you will find 100s of them. But if you want people with mind-set , you will barely find any.” He added: "That’s what I like about you; your grit. With that, you can acquire the skills and lead the skilled ones too.” Since then, whenever I was hiring, I always picked steadfastness over skill. Harish would later become the first investor for my first startup, Cosmofeed, which now has 3.2 million users. You don’t have to be a genius to start a business. You need grit. - Post that content - Start that business - Launch that course - Build that community Grit too is a skill. Here's how to build it: Do one thing that makes you uncomfortable everyday. Being a great writer doesn't come from good writing. It comes when you read a lot, and then you develop your taste. Once you develop a taste, you should learn to articulate your thoughts. In today's era, combining these two: Taste and Articulation are what makes you a great writer.

You can hate Elon as much as you want, but his Neuralink has given this voiceless man his voice again. Meet Terry, an ALS patient who lost his ability to speak in 2024 but was able to communicate again because of Neuralink. In this disease, a person loses his ability to speak because it affects the muscles responsible for talking and swallowing. Under the Neuralink VOICE clinical trial, his N1 brain implant records signals associated with intended speech, allowing AI to decode his words and generate spoken sentences. The day technology starts solving severe paralysis and neurological conditions, it will start a new dawn in the field of medical diagnosis.

2024: Mosseri said long-form video will destroy Instagram's core purpose – connecting with friends. 2026: You can now upload "90 minute video". What changed in just 2 years? If you think this is sudden, no, it's not. In January 2025, they increased the length of reels to 3 minutes. They have already given you a taste of long-form content on Instagram. It will be called "Features", a brand-new long-form video format on Instagram. It is obvious that they are trying to compete with YouTube here. The short form is great for distribution, but the long form builds trust. YT has already launched Shorts, which is giving huge competition to Instagram, so it makes sense for IG to launch long form so that they also cover the full funnel. It is a win-win situation for both creators and the platform, because creators don't have to create separately for different platforms, and the attention and credibility of Instagram will increase with long-form content. They had earlier tried this with their IGTV, but it apparently failed, and they removed the feature. What do you think about this new update?

Still the fundamentals won't change: 1. Quality Content. 2. Quality Engagement 3. Quality community If you are continuously focusing on these three parameters, then you don't have to worry about algorithm changes every week.
X ALGORITHM UPDATE 🚨 X just stopped cutting new posts first, and that should help small accounts (I check it daily with Claude and share updates worth sharing with you) tl;dr: - X can only check 2,800 posts each time you open your feed - new posts used to be last in line, so they got cut first - now everything gets cut equally, new posts included - posts labeled low quality or misinfo now show a warning, and people can't like, reply or share them - no score changes this time lesson learned: your new posts now get a fair chance to be seen. Your first 2 hours still matter most. full details: - How it worked until this week Every time someone opens For You, X collects around 3,700 posts it could show them: posts from people they follow, popular posts, posts liked by similar people, and brand new posts. But X only has time to check 2,800 of them. So it just took the first 2,800 in line. Brand new posts were at the back of the line. When there were too many, they were the ones left out... and a post that never gets checked can't be shown. - What changed Now everything gets cut by the same amount. 25% too many? Every type of post loses 25%, new posts included. Nobody goes first. - Why small accounts should care Those brand new posts are under 2 hours old, with under 8 likes and under 500 views. That's where most posts from smaller accounts are. My read: they now get a fair chance instead of being cut first. How often X actually hits the 2,800 limit isn't in the code, so I can't tell you how big the difference is. - Low quality and misinfo posts now show a warning If X labels your post as low quality or misinformation, people who don't follow you see a warning on it, and they can't like, reply, repost, bookmark or share it. The code doesn't say what gets a post that label. Here's a recap of what you should be doing: - a new post gets its extra push only in its first 2 hours and first 200 views, so post when your people are online - likes carry more weight than ever at 0.66 each - people sticking around pays, the time-spent score is 50% higher than two weeks ago - a read of 10+ seconds after someone opens your post adds 0.4 - the boost favors the post with the best like rate from its first viewers - accounts up to 50K can get one fresh original lifted to roughly 16th - nothing beats a copy link share, it scores 20 - replies, quotes and DM shares each score 5 - talk with your mutuals, replies between you score 20 instead of 5 - originals are the only posts that travel outside your follower base - the 1st and the 32nd like each open a new route to strangers - your 2nd post in the same feed is worth 62% of the first, so pick your best one - videos still need 10+ seconds to qualify for the video lists - earning a follow adds 4 - a pinned post with a bad link can flag the account for 7 days, worth a quick check What you should NOT be doing: - posts that get labeled low quality or misinfo now carry a warning, and nobody outside your followers can like or share them - video alone won't carry you, an open counts 0.02 and the watch 0 - hide-worthy posts cost more, "not interested" sits at -52.27 - a post at 3am burns its 2 hour window before anyone sees it - a tap that turns into a bounce is worth only 0.3 - replies and reposts don't get past your followers - insults get your post hidden from anyone who doesn't follow you - adult media in 3 of your last 5 posts puts a label on your account - disguised content in videos gets checked from 64 likes, harder at 512 - self-reply chains under big accounts risk being zeroed - one account label and non-followers stop seeing you entirely - low-rated links don't belong in your pinned post - recycled wording can get tagged as copypasta spam - strangers tagged plus a low quality link is a pattern X flags - engagement bait has no size exemption - several posts in a row end up competing with each other - hashtag stacks add nothing - bookmarks are still worth 0 - 48 hours in, For You is finished with a post

In my first year as a founder, I will focus on finding my product-market fit. You cannot sell something if it is not desirable or if it is not solving any actual real-world problem. Your followers will not become your customers if you don't know what their actual needs are.
what would you prioritize in your first year as a founder? A. becoming profitable B. finding product-market fit C. building a recognizable brand D. creating a repeatable sales process

Earlier, if your company just added a word, 'AI', into it, investors used to rush to pump in money. Today many AI companies have around miniscule revenue from their main business, but their valuation is more than 50x or 100x. Investors are now seeing this gap. Now no one wants to spend on potential only. It's been 3 years since AI became mainstream. Now it should show in actual numbers.

Dessa just gave a little bit of satisfaction for the future of AI. It felt like a first step towards humanisation of AI. Jack gave us a voice model trained only on real human conversations. No text, no books, no LLM underneath. Most AIs read a mountain of text first, then convert your voice to text, think, and convert back to voice. In this process, a lot is lost; human emotions are lost. And we skip using AI because it doesn't feel natural at all. But, Dessa learned the way kids do: by listening. Audio goes in; audio comes out. It can talk and listen at the same time, so it interrupts, laughs mid-sentence, and picks up on tone the way a human does. One of the best places where I can see its immediate application is in AI customer care service. Right now, it feels like I am talking to a robot to get my refunds back, and it doesn't understand at all. There is no doubt about it that in a few years people will pay a premium for experiences that still feel human. This is one of the first models pointed in that direction.
We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence. block.xyz/dessa

still, I think we're a long way from people handing all their shopping to agents. for one, trust is a major issue. you can't take what AI does at face value, so I don't think most people will hand over their credit card just yet. of course better models will solve for this over time. but still, i don't think its the full picture. shopping is not always a chore we want to get rid of. it also something that people enjoy doing and something they use as a way of self-expression. its easy to hand over weekly grocery shopping to AI - because its the same few items again and again, and the risk is also pretty low. but clothing, jewellery, anything involving taste, I think people will still want to browse. agents will of course help with discovery and research, but I think the purchase will not be autonomous. also, the transaction will most likely stay with the merchants. earlier this year, OpenAI already scaled back its plans for instant checkout in chats because of low adoption and infra issues. for anything tied to taste, purchase funnel would stay like this: discovery on a reel or TikTok -> research/consideration with an agent -> checkout on the merchant's site. agents will only take over the shopping that feels like a chore. the fun part will stay with us humans.

daily business conversations on meta grew 67% in 2 years. global e-commerce grew 15%. why are conversations growing so much faster than e-commerce itself? the answer lies in a fundamental shift in online commerce: discovery is moving from storefronts to feeds. on a traditional e-commerce website, product discovery and purchase happen in the same place. you can explore product details, read reviews, compare prices and check out. but when you discover a product in a reel, you encounter something different. the content can make you want the product, but it doesn't necessarily give you everything you need to buy it. will this fit me? is the seller genuine? will it arrive on time? if something goes wrong, will there be someone to help? that's where conversations come in. the content creates purchase intent. the conversation helps turn that intent into confidence. when a business responds quickly, answers questions and addresses concerns, messaging becomes more than customer support. it helps bridge the gap between seeing a product and feeling confident enough to buy it. this is why messaging deserves to be seen as more than another step in the e-commerce funnel. social commerce is not simply e-commerce on social media. it's a rethinking of how commerce on the internet works.

on 28 october, meta will change where clicks on your ads can lead. the feature is called product browsing. it switches on for ads that are already running, unless you opt out. today a tap takes the shopper to your website. with product browsing, they first land on a page meta hosts inside facebook or instagram. it shows your product details and meta's suggestions of other things to buy. meta says businesses saw 3% more conversions on average. the catch: those suggestions can include your competitors' products next to yours. you don't control what appears. for a big brand, that may be fine. for a small seller, it's worth thinking about. a shopper browsing on meta's page isn't talking to you, and you have nobody to follow up with. that is why click-to-dm ads matter. the tap opens a chat with you. the buyer asks the price, the size, whether cod works, and you answer. the conversation happens with you, not on a page meta designed. the usual objection is that chats don't scale. one person can't reply to hundreds of messages, received throughout the day. true today, but it's the part we're working on solving: an assistant that picks up the chat the moment buyers click on your ads.

your instagram posts now reach just 4.9% of your followers. down 14% in a year. (socialinsider) 10k followers = ~490 see the post. and that's if your account stays up. search "instagram ban" and you'll find countless stories of people who lost their accounts, apparently for no reason. there's even an online petition, signed by 65,000 people on change org, against wrongful bans by meta. if your whole business is on a platform you don't own, you don't really own the business. you are renting it. build an audience on social platforms. build your business somewhere you own.

0 to 2.4M messages a day in 9 months, without ads. that's how fast AutoDM grew. here's what we did 🧵 1/ build what people keep asking for. sending links on instagram was a nightmare. every tool that fixed it was expensive and clunky. our users kept asking. so we built AutoDM. no users yet? search social media for what people need. 2/ give a taste for free. nobody wants to pay upfront for a tool that can't promise results. so we let people try AutoDM free and see the value before asking for money. 3/ get every user to a win, fast. post a reel, followers comment, every commenter gets the link in seconds. the first time someone saw comments turn into leads, they were in. 4/ turn wins into something shareable. our advantage: our users are creators and small businesses. making content is what they already do. so when one got a real result, we asked them to make a video about it. people trust someone like them more than any ad. 5/ repeat. the people who joined from those videos got their own wins. then we reached out to them too. build something people value and are happy to talk about. that's the key to every flywheel.

SuperProfile MCP is now live 🚀 run your SuperProfile from Claude, ChatGPT or any AI assistant that supports MCP. no forms. no settings pages. just type what you want: "set up a webinar for saturday at 7pm." "send my course link to everyone who comments COURSE on my latest reel." it drafts, you approve, it goes live. for decades, using software meant learning it. learning the UI, the settings, where everything lives. soon, most software won't be used by people clicking through screens. it'll be used by AI agents acting on their behalf. so we're building SuperProfile for AI agents, not just the humans they work for.

our best feature was never on our roadmap. it's now the thing SuperProfile is best known for. it won us an award from Meta. and within a year it was sending 2M+ messages a day. but we didn't plan any of it. our users did. sending links on Instagram was a nightmare. and every tool that solved it was expensive and clunky. so they kept asking us to fix it. so we built AutoDM. these days the complaint we hear most is "i have no system, and no team". guess what we're building next 😏

scroll the comments under any indian boutique's reel. pp. pp. Pp. price plz. pp. it's short for "price please". and it's how a lot of small businesses here actually sell. the buyer finds the product in a reel. comments "pp". the seller replies in the DMs. size, colour, COD or UPI, address. all in the chat. no website. no cart. no checkout page. e-commerce was built on one idea: bring people to your store. social commerce flips it. the store goes where people already are. the instagram profile is the storefront now. the reel is the shop window. the comments are the queue at the counter.
