Oh cool. I jused Julia + Flux as an example code for the Docker teaching last year and now it doesn't work because of course Julia is like that.

I have been a Statistician for 10 years.
Some of the earlier Statisticians invented amazing tools like Random Forest, boosting/bagging, Lasso.
Since then I have seen no real progress. The same old debates are ongoing.
Statisticians with ambitious goals have all moved to AI.

"@SpringerNature journal has retracted over 200 papers since September"
Our question is, why were these not picked up during the original peer review?

Saw this "BOLD" prediction on the future of AI from Gianluca Mauro, who has worked in AI for 10 years and also teaches at Harvard.
It is a very interesting take that I also find myself agreeing with.
What are your thoughts? 🤔

What kind of childhood makes a top scientist? Is it enough to have all the right traits (brilliance, grit, etc) or do you need the right family too?

Does anyone have any links to critical work on using LLMs to code? Showing how garbage it is but still it's being used or how it plagiarise but users don't know? Or are we/coders actually not even falling for the hype? I hear from outside academia some are using it, sadly. 🫣

So apparently if someone knows / guesses the name of your S3 bucket - even if it's private (!) - they can just bankrupt you by sending infinite PUT requests and there is nothing you can do about it.
> requests get rejected
> but AWS still counts it as a write operation against your account for which you have to pay at a rate of $0.005 per 1000 requests
This seems insane to me. Especially because a lot of services rely on presigned URLs for uploads / downloads which exposes your bucket name to the client. In this case the author got their bill waved, but AWS support made it clear it's an exception not the rule.

apparently Google laid off their entire Python Foundations team, WTF!
( @SkyLi0n who is one of the pybind11 maintainers just informed me, asking what ways they can re-fund pybind11)
The team seems to have done substantial work that seems critical for Google internally as well.
