Azov Torture Chamber, Far-Right Violence and Protesters Far-right militant, ex-HUR officer Ivan Pylypchuk, aka “Zalizniak,” casually explains how he organized columns of paramilitaries to beat up protesters in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, where people were demanding the release of soldiers who had been brutally assaulted and held captive in an Azov facility. The thugs marched in, reciting the Prayer of a Ukrainian Nationalist, which, according to Zalizniak, somehow “dissolved the crowd.” Not their fists. Not the kicks, punches, and beatings caught on camera, including an assault on a UNIAN journalist. Oh no. Apparently, it was the sheer spiritual power of an OUN prayer associated with a fascist organization responsible for the ethnic cleansing of Jews and Poles during World War II and collaboration with Nazis. A miracle, ladies and gentlemen. Who knew poetry could work like riot police? The guy openly admits: We showed up and beat the protesters. And yet, four days later, the police still can't seem to find these mysterious, elusive creatures. Perhaps they should try looking under the nearest swastika. Meanwhile, in a truly breathtaking display of law enforcement efficiency, the police have already managed to track down and throw two women in jail for two months, pending further proceedings. Their alleged offense? Trying to save a man whom Azov fighters had reportedly beaten, tortured, and held in a basement for 37 days. Apparently, finding two desperate women is a piece of cake. Finding a bunch of far-right thugs who practically give interviews about their violence? Now that's a case for Sherlock Holmes. Welcome to post-Maidan Ukraine, where far-right violence apparently comes with a loyalty card, and justice is reserved for those who survive it. Democracy is alive and well. It's just currently being held in a basement.
