SD Wheat

🌾 Producers scout fields with yardsticks, calculators & yield formulas. Breeders need plot-level yield estimates, too! 🚁 Discover how drones enable high-throughput tiller estimation in our latest findings. Congratulations, @swas_kaushal 👏 tinyurl.com/zjukwe6p

Wanted to give #TeamWheat a break after months of hard field work but parents are heading in crossing block so we cannot rest @SDState @wheatsd ❤️🌾🙏

#TeamWheat @sdstate had started #speedbreed in winter wheat early in 2021 & come 2026 few lines will be cycled back into crossing block this fall as the performed in Elite trials. Three lines from our first speedbreed cohort enter state variety trial in 2027. 🤞❤️🌾 @wheatsd

🌾 Winter wheat trials at our Brookings location are off to a great start! The earliest-planted trial is showing 3–4 tillers, with good soil moisture. After a couple of tough, dry falls, it’s great to see trials off to such a promising start! 🤞 @wheatsd @dakotafarmtalk @SDState

What remarkable week almost caught up the week’s delay with 6 days of non stop planting till dark. More 4000 yield trials plots, 4,350 early observation plots, 16500 headrows all in the ground. One more week to wrap up 27 planting. Thank you everyone for your hard work #TeamWheat

Grow Resilient winter wheat. have you heard about nrcs.usda.gov/programs-initi… @wheatsd @USDA_NRCS

Winter wheat isn’t just another crop- it can be an investment in the long-term health, resilience, and profitability of your farm @wheatsd @SDSUExtension @dakotafarmtalk Keep the ground covered. Keep the roots living ❤️🌾 #SoilHealth #CropRotation #CoverCrops #RegenerativeAg

Add winter wheat to your crop rotation and suppress yield-robbing weeds in the next row crop @wheatsd @SDSUExtension @mnwheat @USDA @USDA_NRCS

Growers have reported pests like Northern corn rootworm (NCR) even as far as central SD. Crop rotation with winter wheat and other non-host crops effectively helps manage corn rootworm by starving newly hatched larvae @wheatsd @SDSUExtension @USDA_NRCS @mnwheat
