I'm so excited to share our new preprint! Why can just minutes of motor cortex stimulation relieve chronic pain for weeks, while opioid drugs typically relieve pain for only hours? To understand this mechanism, we backtranslated TMS treatment to mice: tinyurl.com/mtcderzv

Excited to share our new paper in @SfNJournals exploring how microglial TREM2 influences BOTH degeneration and regeneration after peripheral nerve injury. We found that microglia respond very differently depending on the state of the injured motoneuron. jneurosci.org/content/46/20/…

🚨‼️Preprint Alert‼️🚨 Hot off the press! We report a dual role for TREM2 following PNI; both beneficial for axon regeneration and detrimental to motoneuron preservation. Very glad to see the bulk of my dissertation work finally out! @emoryalvarezlab biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Congratulations Dr. @ebethsypek on this publication - I am extremely grateful for the one of a kind mentorship of the legendary Dr. @ebethsypek and for the chance to contribute to this work. To this day I use your custom tools for handling my spinal cord sections!!

few things break my conceptual tunnel vision nowadays but this is one! Awesome work by @jennisisaac , and a highly recommended read regardless of your field of interest
Spent the past few years with @muruganmalu studying what drives affiliative social interactions in 🐭 & now you can read some of our thoughts in @TrendsNeuro 🧠

Love to see credit where credit is due!! Tana is a serious force in the lab and an excellent mentor, take a minute to read i to her ongoing work @PottorfTana @emoryalvarezlab
Each year, the Dept of Cell Biology recognizes an outstanding undergraduate, graduate, or post doc learner. Meet 4th year neuroscience PhD candidate Tana Pottorf-Nitcher working in microglia-motoneuron interactions in the spinal cord after injury. More ➡️ brnw.ch/21wIQhM

A freshly printed poster will always make your day! thank you to @K_Thomas1122 for teaching me EMGs so I can make a giant poster with my recordings
The Alvarez lab is very proud of our graduate student @willieneuro for his presentation on tools for high res EMG's at the Sensorimotor Circuits for Limb Control meeting @OISTedu this past March, and additional presentation @EmoryUniversity @emoryDSAC GDBBS Research Symposium.

When @emoryalvarezlab hired me I said that staining for regenerated spindle fibers in muscles was a dream project… it was and now its out in press!! Hugely grateful to the team and everyone involved, but most importantly to my long time mentors @7867Mercer @ebethsypek thank you
We are excited to share the following publication which was a joint effort with the Cope lab @GeorgiaTech Herein, we elucidate the differing effects on spinal cord plasticity and inflammation between crush and cut peripheral nerve injuries. 🧵 cell.com/cell-reports/pdfExt…
