An excellent primer on the racial politics of time and toxic productivity in non-profits (and the world more generally). Enjoy.
📢 📢 I wrote a two-parter about non-profits, urgency cultures, toxic productivity and the racial politics of time. With thanks to the 221 people who filled in the survey which informed this article 🙏🏾 PS Share with your funders! medium.com/@leila-billing/ti…

This is so a reaction, and so absurd. I've been called 'f***ing foreigner' on Trinity Street, right at the genteel heart of oh so genteel Cambridge, by an elderly gentlement in hat and suit. The gaslighting is worse than the original episode.
My wife was racially abused this morning while walking the dog in Cambridge. Not the first time it's happened. Whenever she talks about this, the reaction she gets is 'really, in Cambridge??'. Yes, really, in Cambridge. And everywhere else in the UK too. Open your eyes.

People in Cambridge (UK) hate to hear this (due to a sense of liberal smugness) but this city is home to a lot of 'genteel' racism. It's also the site of much overt bigotry - white in a van called me a p*** on my morning dog walk. Spent my morning reporting a hate crime.

Yes. We have the receipts. Sorry this happened to you, Leila, leaves you feeling helpless and sick.

The Tintin French-English/English-French dictionary is absolutely full of useful day to day phrases. Sadly (and entirely predictably) much of it is unfit to reprint.

‘The Bear’ is very well done and well acted but, honestly, do we need another show about men who just need to get some therapy and call their mum?

Security tags on cheese and butter in my local shop. As #CostOfLivingCrisis bites get ready for gov to start pushing narratives about ‘heroic’ volunteers & food banks in a bid to frame these as complementary rather than oppositional to govt efforts. Don’t be fooled - 1/PA

Working on feminist leadership has taught me a lot about purity, perfection... and trauma. So I wrote about it: bit.ly/3R9forq

Here we are at Cambridge University- doing our best to spread @sribatli ‘s work on feminist leadership far and wide. And bringing subversive politics to the academy and incoming scholars. @we_are_fl @nataliebrook @AForringerBeal

Spinning the ETH 'Merge' as a net good for carbon emissions pre-supposes that ETH generates enough value in the world to justify emitting *anything*.

I love "Measure What Matters" but I've always been troubled by the 'Indy 500' OKR example. 🧵 Doerr states that "completion of all [KRs] _must_ result in attainment of the objective. If not, it's not an OKR."
1
The trouble with framing OKRs as, in effect, guarantees, is that doing business is far too nuanced for this to work. Better to treat them as a tool for increasing focus, ambition and accountability.
1
Successful completion of _good_ KRs should put you in the _best possible position_ to achieve your objectives but doesn't guarantee that you will 'win'.
