ALT (CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS SLIDE) 7. Put yourself out there, but take care of yourself. Don't be afraid to stand by your positions, but don't burn yourself out; a rested person performs better. Seek visibility at cultural events, such as art and music. 8. Keep the tone. The far right feeds on fear, hatred, and resentment. Respond with solidarity, hope, and a vision of the future for everyone.

ALT BRAZILIAN ACTIVISM GUIDE to Combat the Far Right ——— 1. Don't trust the neutrality of algorithms. Platforms are not neutral referees. They may limit reach of left-wing accounts and boost far-right content. Relying only on organic reach on social media is therefore risky. 2. Ignore far-right accounts. Don't engage with them, whether to correct, debate, or insult. The algorithm doesn't measure truth; it distributes more of whatever generates more engagement. Every reply, even a critical one, extends a post's reach. Without interaction, this content stays confined to its own bubble.

ALT 3. Centralize and decentralize at the same time. • Decentralized: Create many groups to produce quality content, without fake news. Use memes, infographics, news, rationaal argument, and humor. People of different professions, ages and regions react differently to different type of content, so the material should be tailored for each. • Centralized: Also keep large groups for specific actions, such as pushing hashtags into trending topics, mass-distributing content on a topic of the moment (for example, during a televised debate), and delivering campaign materials (images, text, memes). • Growth: Attract as many members as possible and ask each new member to share the group link. • Coordination: Discipline and tactical leadership make a difference. In Brazil, a single person coordinated actions in a huge group. If no one in your country has that vision, work to form a centralized core, which is essential for national-scale actions. ALT (CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS SLIDE) 4. Go beyond open social networks. Besides X, Instagram and Facebook, send your material directly to groups of friends, college, work, and family. In Brazil, this is done through WhatsApp, in your country, use the most popular messaging app.

ALT 5. Prioritize those who can be persuaded. Don't waste energy trying to convert the far right; in the short term, it's unlikely. Focus on those who haven't formed an opinion yet or who shop openness. Don't respond to provocations; in the case of personal attacks, ignore and block. 6. Take to the streets too. Online mobilization is very important, but hold rallies, demonstrations, and popular actions. Talk and share material with kindness and without responding to provocations. In case of aggression, defend yourself, record everything on video, and contact the police. Your opponents will try to paint you as violent and control the narrative. Don't let them. ALT Poem "À la recherche d’ Gertrude Stein" By Frank O’Hara When I am feeling depressed and anxious sullen all you have to do is take your clothes off and all is wiped away revealing life’s tenderness that we are flesh and breathe and are near us as you are really as you are I become as I really am alive and knowing vaguely what is and what is important to me above the intrusions of incident and accidental relationships which have nothing to do with my life when I am in your presence I feel life is strong and will defeat all its enemies and all of mine and all of yours and yours in you and mine in me sick logic and feeble reasoning are cured by the perfect symmetry of your arms and legs spread out making an eternal circle together creating a golden pillar beside the Atlantic the faint line of hair dividing your torso gives my mind rest and emotions their release into the infinite air where since once we are together we always will be in this life come what may
