Does Discord delete your data after verifying your age?
Probably, and we hope so.
Do the vendors they outsource the additional checks and appeals to follow the same philosophy? Not at all.

It would be good if people that say they care about children would actually do things that would reduce risk rather than creating more.
Also I want to see this research 🧐because in my tearing over the last few weeks and asking anyone I can to show me, I’m not randomly finding porn let alone violent porn. I have android and iPhone test rigs here with me, if people say where to go, I’ll test things.
You also have to not just care about children, you have to care about the safety of all people. That’s important because society doesn’t work if you just hyper focus on one group. You end up making poor decisions. This is also true in business in my experience.
The online safety act is IMHO a massive overreach that is trying to use technology in a way which simply will not work. We can all wish unicorns 🦄 existed but they don’t.
But there’s some things that I beleive could be done and would reduce harm. Safe search style http headers, App Store improvements, better education, simpler content filtering solutions, filtering on by default (which is true for some cell providers today)

We must act to protect another generation of children as young as 6 from exposure to violent porn online 👇🏻Children’s exposure to porn higher than before 2023 Online Safety Act, poll finds | Pornography | The Guardian theguardian.com/society/2025…

ℹ️ | We are seeing lots of videos being shared online that were filmed at previous protests or during previous incidents.
There has been no disorder in London this weekend and the videos are likely being shared to mislead or to fuel tension.

This is a fake post about the real reason for the Uk riots! Watch as I weave a story about how the real cause is the lizard people…the tale will show how indeed the truth…

it's funny how some tech/infosec/cyber accounts have moved to private and are posting/re-posting content that seemingly supports the riots in the UK
Whatever ur political views I would think that safety would be the prevailing focus for the security professional (that is of course just my opinion)
Our jobs involve a lot of things that intersect with:
> Politics
> Laws
> Law Enforcement
> Intelligence Services
> Human Rights
> Privacy
> Society (in general)
I would say though that safety and the law would be one thing to anchor to....
But that's just my view. The events I've seen over the last week and the content online are horrendous.
People supporting riots to me are both damaging their own reputations and that of the industry they represent (and likely some code of conducts/ethics people have signed up to)
We are here to help people. Burning libraries and hotels with people inside is not helping people!

Thanks v much for the response to my analysis investigating the role social media disinformation and hate played in these riots.
There’s also a bit of unfounded speculation about where false claims came from and their impact - so do give this a read. bbc.com/news/articles/cd1e8d…
It’s now a familiar pattern: a violent attack, innocent people are killed, and X is set alight with unfounded - and often incorrect - accusations about the assailant's identity.

Let’s be clear. 'Upload Moderation' is a mass surveillance program.
We urge EU governments to reject mass scanning of their citizens' communications by voting against this proposal tomorrow.
📣Official statement: the new EU chat controls proposal for mass scanning is the same old surveillance with new branding.
Whether you call it a backdoor, a front door, or “upload moderation” it undermines encryption & creates significant vulnerabilities
