What a very fun question. And no, at least as of my time right now, there are no useful answers.
Heterodox economists claim that they're systematically shut out of top econ journals. So I have a genuine question: What are the best recent heterodox papers that deserved publication in a top journal but were rejected? @IsabellaMWeber @devikadutt @DanielaGabor

The "Windrush Generation" is perhaps 500k people. Which, in a country of 60 million at the time is not, really, enough to build the place.

This is an important point, folks. Selling the family silver now to pay for current expenditure makes the future poorer.
Replying to @LevyAntoine
3. transferring resources that are currently saved by the rich (at the margin) to government transfers or direct government consumption reduces the capital stock. This might be useful in times of r<g and secular stagnation, but current evidence suggests capital is scarce

How is this different from everyone else in the arts academia "saw his own scholarship as part of the Left’s fight for power."?
Peter Thomas, the Marxist theorist best known for his work on Antonio Gramsci, has died. He restored the political edge to Gramsci’s theory of hegemony and saw his own scholarship as part of the Left’s fight for power. jacobin.com/2026/10/peter-th…

People grossly overestimate the severity of medieval justice. It would have been a fine or the stocks at worst.

The shareholders are financing your apartment. Seems a fair trade.
Ich wohne in einer Wohnung von Vonovia und muss mit meiner Miete literally den Ferrari von Aktionär*innen finanzieren. Und es gibt Leute, die das für gerecht halten 😂

Cretin. So the ex-stockholders in GM now have a pile of cash. What happens to that? It gets either spent - boosting demand - or re-invested. Why is this a problem?
GM just announced the biggest stock buyback in automotive industry history. Instead of investing in their workers or new product lines, GM executives are robbing from the future to pay themselves and their shareholders today. Stock buybacks should be illegal.

Visigothic Spain was Christian before being invaded by the Umayyads. So was all of North Africa. Including Egypt. Umm, actually, so was pretty much everywhere outside Mo's head.
Muslims never invaded Christian countries. But Christian countries have invaded and are still invading Muslim countries. We know who wants peace and who loves war.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Muslim armies conquered Christian territories of the Byzantine Empire in the Levant, Egypt and North Africa in the 7th century and the Visigothic Christian kingdom in Spain beginning in 711. worldhistory.org/article/1571/e… britannica.com/place/Spain/Mu… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab-Byza… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umayyad_c…

The Labour Theory of Value is wrong. Humans simply do not value things by the labour that went into their production. Therefore LTV could be an interesting philosophical position - maybe - but it's simply not useful as the basis of any form of economics concerning humans.
It’s amazing how not one person has refuted Marx in the thousands of interactions I’ve had on twitter. It’s always an attack on his background or lifestyle. I’ve yet to hear one good faith, well structured attempt at refuting Marxism or dialectical/historical materialism.

Very funny that billionaires are like “I am leaving”. And Zucman’s response is “sorry no, my theory doesn’t allow this”

Nicely done.
Very good explanation from one of the smartest French economists of why Mélenchon can cancel all French sovereign debt that was outstanding as of July 1st this year without any negative consequences, as long as he promises it’s a one-time default.

It would disrupt an awful lot of weddings if the Church of England brought back the death penalty for shagging in the organ loft, no?
For those of you who are still being mislead by the fake news of the execution in Saudi. Here is what really happened. Now judge it yourself. Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter, two Bangladeshi nationals employed as cleaning workers for the Bin Laden Group in Mecca, became romantically involved while commuting to work. Nazrul lived in a residential villa in Hayyal Iskan, while Sithi resided in Batha Kuraysh. In May 2023, the two engaged in illicit relations in a secluded stairwell room between Gates 85 and 87 of Masjidul Haram. Nazrul had asked an Indian acquaintance to stand guard downstairs, but the friend secretly recorded the encounter on video. Later, when the Indian national attempted to make advances toward Sithi and was rejected, he leaked the video online. The video quickly went viral, prompting immediate intervention by Saudi authorities, who successfully apprehended all three individuals. The Indian national received a 20-year prison sentence for recording and distributing the footage. Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter were detained immediately following their arrest in May 2023. Nazrul had originally arrived in Saudi Arabia from Bangladesh between November 10 and 13, 2022. Following his arrest in May 2023, he remained incarcerated throughout a lengthy three-and-a-half to four-year judicial process leading up to October 2026. Throughout this period, official protocol dictated that the Saudi government notify the employer (sponsor) rather than foreign government authorities. Various rumors circulated online falsely claiming that the individuals were pilgrims performing Umrah or that the charges stemmed merely from public displays of affection. While the defendants were unmarried, the severity of the legal outcome was not solely based on the act of zina (adultery). Because the offense took place within the sacred precincts of Masjidul Haram, the court determined that they had severely violated the sanctity and honor of Islam's holiest mosque. Consequently, senior judges of the Supreme Court handed down the death penalty as an exemplary punishment aligned with Quranic principles and the Sunnah.

Well, quite. It's not Germans burning the place, is it?
His ancestors died on the Marne, at Verdun, at Passchendaele and at Dunkirk for this.

So, err, being potty mouthed is now evidence of neo-nazism? How definitions, err, relax over time, eh?
The president called an African country a ‘shit house’ on camera. I remember the old days - his first term! - when calling African countries ‘shit holes’ was a huge controversy that had to be denied. We have normalized his Neo-Nazism now. Lucky us.

My word. We can save a government plan by just raising taxes, can we? My word.
3-Step Plan To Save Social Security: (That could actually work) Raise the employer portion from 6.2% to 8.8% Make the employer pay on 100% of the income Don’t change benefits for anyone If you do these three things, we close the 75-year shortfall completely

An obvious question. So, Sunshine, what are you giving to each American kid then?
Wow, one whole share of a company which Elon Musk owns 6.4 billion shares of and which loses money and is planning to lose trillions more on Moon and Mars missions that have absolutely no return on investment. Also your kid can't touch it until they turn 18

This is over the Bangladeshi couple who were found naughtying (I don't know how naughty) in a mosque in Saudi and were then executed. No, really, couple of weeks back they were executed. You can just about imagine that 600 years back they might have been killed off for doing that. But then that's rather the point, the 600 years.....
So if two people were caught having illicit sex in a church people will just look, laugh and pass? 🤔

Food stamps are not supposed to feed someone for a month. They're an addition to the budget that can be used to feed someone. An addition, not the whole budget. BTW, $3 a meal for a person? Piece of piss. Yep, you could come and make a documentary about me doing just that if you wish. Like that Matthew Parris one except I'd be eating well. Seriously, £2 a meal? Piece of piss.
