ALT Morning Song by Sylvia Plath: Love set you going like a fat gold watch. The midwife slapped your footsoles, and your bald cry Took its place among the elements. Our voices echo, magnifying your arrival. New statue. In a drafty museum, your nakedness Shadows our safety. We stand round blankly as walls. I’m no more your mother Than the cloud that distills a mirror to reflect its own slow Effacement at the wind’s hand. All night your moth-breath Flickers among the flat pink roses. I wake to listen: A far sea moves in my ear. One cry, and I stumble from bed, cow-heavy and floral In my Victorian nightgown. Your mouth opens clean as a cat’s. The window square Whitens and swallows its dull stars. And now you try Your handful of notes; The clear vowels rise like balloons.

ALT #MondayBlogs Grammar Errors You May Be Making Right Now and How to Stop. Please. | @BadRedheadMedia https://geni.us/GrammaticalErrors Twenty-five word crimes that make writers twitch... Okay, I admit it; I have grammar pet peeves. Come on, we all do. We may pretend we’re far too evolved to judge other people’s word choices, but then someone writes alot, and suddenly we’re pacing around the house muttering, “It’s two words. TWO, dammit.” Might just be me. So, with affection and a tiny speck of judgment, let’s discuss a few repeat offenders. 1. Alot No. It’s a lot. Two words. You wouldn’t write alittle, abunch, or awholemess. Please stop making a and lot live together before they’re ready. 2. For Free You received the book free. You downloaded the guide free. You attended the event free of charge. You can say you received it for free; that phrase is grammatically acceptable, widely used, and understood. I still don’t like it.
