[WATCH] Residents of Kanana Extension 5 in Thembisa are threatening to boycott this year's Local Government Elections, citing persistent service delivery failures. Their growing frustration comes three years after deadly service delivery protests brought the township to a standstill, with residents saying little has changed since then. Newzroom Afrika's Scara Mafokoane has more.

We have learnt with deep concern of an incident in which the home of one of our councillor candidates in Ramotshere Moiloa, Ward 12, was reportedly burnt down today, 1 November 2026. At this stage, the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including what may have caused the fire, remain unknown. However, given the hostility and intimidation experienced by our candidate  throughout the campaign period, we cannot dismiss the possibility that this incident may have been politically motivated.

AfriForum’s move under @kalliekriel to take legal action against @Mngxitama2 is the right one. An MP who publicly frames the deliberate cutting off of a farmer’s ears during a brutal attack as a symbolic political message about “land thieves” and “no land no peace” is not engaging in legitimate debate. He is using the suffering of a living victim (Donovan Marx, still recovering in ICU after being shot, stabbed, and mutilated on 28 October) to advance a narrative that treats extreme violence as understandable or even justified. That crosses a clear line. Mngxitama’s record already includes previous statements that courts have scrutinised for hate speech. When a sitting member of parliament responds to a farm attack involving torture by reducing the victim to a political symbol and invoking historical grievances in that context, it undermines the basic expectation that elected representatives do not legitimise or trivialise criminal violence. Accountability through the courts is not “silencing” him; it is applying the same legal standards that bind everyone else. If the evidence shows his remarks meet the threshold for hate speech, incitement, or related offences, he should face the consequences of the law. @ParliamentofRSA, you also have a duty to examine whether an MP who makes such statements remains fit to hold office. Farmers and rural communities already live with elevated risk of violent crime; they do not need elected officials treating the mutilation of one of their own as a talking point.

Black people getting angry over white billionaires building a university for their people whilst black billionaires are busy buying cars and sending slay queens on vacations 😭
There is an Afrikaans-only university being constructed at a cost of R3.2 billion. If this were an ANC project, the cost would probably have ballooned to R180 billion, and they would still blame a shortage of money for failing to complete it. 🇿🇦

I know that it’s good to press your demands closer to an election, but can someone explain to me how Pick it up Samwu members think no refuse removal a week before a crucial election helps their cause and that of the ANC or SACP?

🚨A LEGACY WORTH CELEBRATING As we close off Dr Nasiphi Moya Week, we reflect on what this week was truly about: celebrating a Black woman in leadership, recognising her journey and acknowledging the work being done in the City of Tshwane. Leadership should be judged honestly, by the challenges inherited, the decisions made and the progress achieved. For me, this week was never only about a Mayor. It was about representation. It was about showing young Black women and girls that they can sit at the table, lead institutions, make difficult decisions and serve their communities with purpose. Dr Nasiphi Moya’s leadership is part of a broader story of Black women stepping forward and shaping the future of South Africa. So as we close the week, let us celebrate the progress, acknowledge the challenges that remain and continue to expect excellence from those entrusted with public office. The celebration may end, but the example, the responsibility and the work continue. A legacy worth celebrating. #DrNasiphiMoyaWeek #5MoreYears
🚨🎓CELEBRATING THE YOUNG BLACK WOMAN BEHIND THE NAME Behind the title, the public appearances and the responsibilities of leadership is the story of a young girl from Mpikwana, a rural village near Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, who dared to dream beyond the circumstances in which she was born. From herding cattle, goats and sheep to pursuing an academic journey that would earn her a PhD in Political Science, Dr Nasiphi Moya's story is one of determination, sacrifice and refusing to allow her beginnings to define her future. Her journey has not been without difficult seasons. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while completing her doctorate, she faced a period of unemployment and came close to becoming an e-hailing driver to make ends meet. Yet she persevered. Today, she occupies one of the most important leadership positions in local government as the Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane. I celebrate Dr Nasiphi Moya because her story is bigger than politics or the office she occupies, It is a story of possibility, resilience and the power of believing that there is more to your life than where you come from. I celebrate the young Black woman behind the name because her journey should inspire a little girl in a rural village to dream without limits and know that she, too, belongs in spaces of leadership, influence and excellence. This is why we celebrate her. #DrNasiphiMoyaWeek #5MoreYears
