NEW: President Trump’s sweeping assertions of executive privilege are already being tested in court — now a Democratic Congress is preparing to pierce his secrecy claims in ways that could reshape the presidency itself.

NEW piece that I'm PROUD OF: I took a deep dive into what happened with AI and the midterms. Not only about this week, it traces the last 18 months of AI politics — and how an odd coalition found its way together to push Dems towards safety/regulation. New: A shutdown fight over Iran war funding is brewing.
Dem leaders have yet to decide whether they will use a Dec. 11 funding deadline to try to limit resources for the war, but the party’s top appropriators don’t appear to be ruling out a year-end fight.
Rosa DeLauro: “Democrats will absolutely not fund Trump’s war of choice with Iran that has increased costs on American families and made us less safe.”
Patty Murray: “The American people just voted overwhelmingly to put an end to this war, and we are going to look at every tool we have available to us to bring this disastrous war to an end.”

Never too early for a 2028 story...
NEW:
Democrats could pick up a once-unthinkable nine Senate seats by the time votes are fully counted from Tuesday’s midterms. Chuck Schumer says he’s just getting started.
Schumer hasn't started recruiting for 2028 but believes Dems could expand their majority. 2028 viewed as a favorable Dem map

This is an excellent column and really gets to the heart of the dilemma now facing Dems.
Dems are euphoric after states across the country voted to paint Congress blue. But the message from the election should be sobering: People are angry about the cost of living, & they want their representatives to do something about it.

Smart story ... the giant majority is going to wipe away a lot of day-to-day drama. Plenty of room for frontliners to take a hike here and there. 👇
This time last week, the progressive and moderate wings of the House Democratic Caucus were gearing up to battle for influence in what they thought might be a slim governing majority.
After surpassing expectations to win as many as 260 seats, members are showing signs of detente.
“There’s been so much attention throughout the course of this campaign, because of some really tough primaries that happened very early on in the primary season, about intraparty squabbles among Democrats,” said Rep. Greg Stanton.
“But what happened last night was a political earthquake, where the American people demanded that checks and balances be restored to government.”
