Spent some time yesterday imporing improved arm64 string functions into the FreeBSD kernel. Saw a 14% improvement in system & 9% real time for buildkernel on some HW. (Thanks @freebsdfndation & @AmpereComputing)

Use the cached dc zva length in arm64 memset
On boot we cache the length the 'dc zva' instruction will zero. Use
this in the memset function to decide when to use it. As the ...

👇 This could change how we secure data.
Our new SoC and demonstrator board, based on CHERI with @Cambridge_CL, contains the first example of the Morello prototype architecture, enabling enhanced security from the hardware level.

Thanks to Intel ME I always get nervous when someone mentions chip-level security...
However, the #Morello project sounds interesting: it combines @Arm chips and @FreeBSD: freebsdfoundation.org/news-a… so, two interesting technologies!

ARM's announced the ship of the Morello boards! I'm very excited to share a new blogpost from Microsoft Research and MSRC, sharing some insights and thoughts regarding our future work on this front! msrc-blog.microsoft.com/2022…
We still need to get debugging working before we build userspace with it enabled, but that's mostly ready.
