In June 2024 the Lord Chancellor of the day and the Lady Chief Justice decided that a judge had done "significant reputational damage to the judiciary". This morning their successor told the MP who raised that judge's record that the criticism was the dangerous part. The judge is Tan Ikram, the Deputy Chief Magistrate. In February 2024 he convicted 3 women of a terrorism offence for displaying images of the paragliders Hamas used on October 7th, and sent all 3 home with conditional discharges, observing that "emotions ran very high on this issue". It then emerged that he had liked a LinkedIn post condemning "Israeli terrorists". The conduct office accepted that the like was an accident, and recommended formal advice. The Lord Chancellor and the Lady Chief Justice of the day thought that too lenient, and raised it to a formal warning. Throughout all of this he has sat on the Judicial Appointments Commission, which he joined in December 2023, and which chooses the people who become judges. On October 1st, Nick Timothy, the Shadow Justice Secretary, wrote to the Lord Chancellor, Alex Norris, asking whether Judge Ikram should carry on. Norris's reply, published today, accuses Timothy of "selective reporting", and ends: "I would ask that you refrain from mounting this kind of dangerous public criticism in future." So the office that found him damaging to the judiciary's reputation 2 years ago now finds the people who mention it the danger. In the closed world of the judiciary, any complaint from inside is a matter for the proper procedures, and any complaint from outside is an attack on the rule of law. You are welcome to think whatever you like about a judge, so long as you never say it with his name attached, and an MP who says it in a letter has endangered the constitution. And "selective reporting" is a strange charge to bring in a country where there is nothing else to report from. No court in England and Wales publishes a record of what each judge does. You cannot look up how a magistrate has sentenced, against the guidelines, over 10 years. You get the cases that make the papers, which are, by definition, a selection, and then you get told off for selecting. Progress would end that. Our Court Transparency Act creates a publicly searchable register of every sentence handed down in every criminal court in England and Wales, linked to the offence, the guideline range, the sentence given, and the judge who gave it. Every piece of information the justice system generates belongs, by default, to the public, and the burden falls on the institution to justify withholding it. Under that system nobody would need Nick Timothy's letter, or Alex Norris's reply. Any voter in the country could look the judge up and draw their own conclusions, and no Lord Chancellor could call that dangerous.

"Who is bankrolling Nigel Farage's party?" asks Bridget Phillipson. "Labour will protect our democracy from foreign influence." Right. Same question back. Who is bankrolling Labour, and the machine around it? Gary Lubner. South African. Former Autoglass chief. Millions. Lord Alli. Buys the clothes, lends the flat. George Soros. Money into Best for Britain and Fair Vote, routed through a London outpost, which is how a foreign fortune gets round a ban on foreign donations. Pierre Omidyar. French-Iranian, eBay founder, funding the campaign groups. Bill Gates. In for the photo call. Swedish philanthropists. Bloomberg. And Verbatim, which made the Channel 4 sting she is riding, is itself funded from abroad. So the watchdog on foreign money is on foreign money. And those are off the top of my head. No research. Give me an afternoon and the list fills a page. So the party promising to protect democracy from foreign influence is up to its neck in it, legally, through the same door, and has proposed no cap that would inconvenience a single person in the room. They held a drinks party for them in Downing Street. The question is not who is bankrolling Farage. It is why Labour thinks the answer changes depending on whose name is on the cheque. "Protect our democracy from foreign influence." They would not know where to start.
Who is bankrolling Nigel Farage's party? What interests are they seeking to advance? Are they acting in Britain's best interests? Reform UK are engulfed in sleaze and scandal. Labour will protect our democracy from foreign influence. independent.co.uk/news/uk/po…

Some TV channels painting the budget as a world event, utter bollox turned them off, for the sound of silence...another fuck up incoming....as Rabbie said, ironically a customs and revenue officer....a lot more of less coming for the prolatariat...!

This template established the digital charting, shift rosters, and clinical assumptions used to label infant collapses as "suspicious." If that identical framework produced unsustainable conclusions for the second batch of children, why is the first tranche safe?

Is this a classic case of Denningism? In 1980, Lord Denning famously warned of an "appalling vista" if the justice system admitted a catastrophic error. It seems institutional self-preservation is being prioritised over a rigorous, independent audit of the science.

The SCCTD cannot quietly stop the bleeding on subsequent cases while refusing to look at the faulty foundation of the first. If the investigative template failed the evidential test now, the original indictment must be re-examined.

SCCTD threw out the second tranche of allegations against Lucy Letby because they lacked "evidential provenance," we face a massive logical conflict. The exact same investigative template..Operation Hummingbird, was used for both sets of cases.

Er … are British taxpayers funding PIP and other benefits? I think we should know. This is Mohmed Ahmad Abdulkarim, 24, who appeared in court in a wheelchair, accused of assisting a foreign intelligence service believed to be Iranian. Prosecutors allege he received nearly £70,000 from a suspected foreign handler to organise vehicles and equipment for the RAF Fairford plot. So I think it’s reasonable to ask … does he work? Is he receiving PIP, Universal Credit or housing support? Is he being supported by the British taxpayer? Just a thought.

Shocking neglect and abuse of retired Lt Col Stephen Maguire DCM SAS, a natural born leader of men who spent 40 years in service to his country, and his son's long fight for justice. Please share Ben's post widely: "My father, Retired Lt Col Stephen Maguire DCM SAS, is a man who spent nearly 40 years in dedicated service to this country, serving from 1970 until 2009. He is a natural leader, a decorated soldier, to those who served with him. However, he has been completely abandoned and betrayed by the very system he gave everything to. I am fighting for justice for my father. This struggle is a mirror of my own life; my own journey marked by the negligence of MPs, charities, and veteran services which led me to the absolute rock bottom of homelessness as a veteran myself. I know exactly what it is like to be discarded by the people who promised to provide support. After years of fighting, we finally have a pathway toward the right care, but the damage is already done. The sheer scale of the failings along the way has crippled a man who likely only suffered from PTSD. What should have been a manageable recovery became a total collapse because of institutional incompetence. This isn't a failure of one person or one office it is a systemic rot. For too long, the UK government, regardless of which side of the fence they sit on, has played a political game with the lives of our veterans. Whether it is Labour or the Conservatives, the result is the same: service men are treated as assets when they are useful and as liabilities the moment they are broken. We are told our sacrifices are "remembered," but the reality is that once the uniform comes off, the care vanishes. We sought help for my dad, worried about PTSD and dementia resulting from his service. Through the SAS Association and Veterans’ Aid, he was referred to various healthcare facilities. Instead of professional care, he found negligence from these referrals. In the last few years alone, he has been through multiple institutions that have failed him. We've dealt with incorrect diagnoses, doctors who tried to push him out of their care because he was "too difficult," and the removal of life-saving medication that led to him being sectioned under the Mental Health Act. He was sedated and left to decline without specialist care. His PTSD was completely ignored, and his medical history was dismissed. In one instance, he was admitted to the hospital due to low sodium caused by the excessive use of anti-psychotic medication. The most infuriating part is the silence from the top. MPs have explicitly ignored this situation and failed to act for a Lt Col in 22 SAS. The "Military Covenant" is nothing more than a piece of paper used for photo opportunities while men like my father are left to rot. The system has failed. The NHS has failed. Veteran charities have failed. From the MOD passing the buck to the medical incompetence of the facilities, my father has been abandoned like thousands of others. I am posting this because we need accountability. It is not enough to simply "help" now; there must be justice for the way he was treated. My father spent four decades looking after his men and serving at the highest level for the United Kingdom; it is a national disgrace that the government failed to look after him and many like him. Do not listen to the rhetoric the government continues to push. As this is an example of what happens after 40 years of dedicated service. Please share this. We need the people in power to answer for this. We need leaders who actually lead, not politicians who just talk." facebook.com/story.php?story… bobshepherdauthor.com/2023/1…

The one nugget ?, most normal people see the original PMs as crystal.. isn't it better for all that they are accepted as they are...and the babies and parents have not been robbed by pointless murders ?
I'm not relying on Chris Morris for my position Wendy. I've read and read and read, desperately trying to find the one nugget that convinces me of her guilt and you'll have to trust me that I want to find it to have confidence this is the right result for everyone. I haven't yet

It amazes me how so many Brits are like “ don’t touch the Falklands, they are British!” All while allowing the mainland to be invaded by a foreign fighting force.
