Soon basically no human will directly interface with the Internet anymore. There will be an agent layer between a human and their data, services, content, etc.
Agentic identity is poorly defined right now. It’ll need to be holistic and deeply tied to human identity but to do that the human user will need to be as deeply understood as possible.
The current infra to achieve that deep understanding is a joke and what’s coming is shocking. This is what I live and build
Tolan and Town. Samenessville. Statusquoificationville. My targets.
Not a team player with this corpo slop. I feel like it’s the re-emergence of that 0 personality big tech illustration style. Small heads and big legs bs that got played out so fast but everyone was using it to fit in. Ugg so frustrating.
This makes it seem like there is a character living with you in physical reality so it’s misleading. I think eventually these characters could exist as micro robots. Robot elf cartoons that follow you around and chat with you.
Last year we launched Tolan, inspired by a vision of AI that sees you and believes in you, not one that books restaurant reservations for you.
Your Tolan shows up for you at 3am when you’re alone with your newborn. On your commute when you’re anxious about the day ahead. When you just finished a new show and none of your friends have watched it yet.
The people who love Tolan are parents. Caregivers. Moms in Dallas and Dads in Atlanta. People who aren’t trying to optimize and be more productive, but who simply want to feel seen and supported in their aspirations.
This month more than 250k people will spend time with their Tolan. Those users have exchanged billions of messages across more than 70m conversations over the last year.
Today, we're announcing $30m in additional capital from @mignano and @usv, with @khoslaventures and @rabois doubling down, bringing our total capital raised to $60m.
To celebrate, we made a short film celebrating some of the ways that Tolans show up :)
tis what tis
we created ai to solve our problems and part of our problems is our own nature.
that's kind of a huge statement. a massive problem with the human experience are problems we cause ourselves. so i'm pretty open to a super aware superintelligence that can auto-detect and auto-solve all our problems. of course if we create many of the problems then we'll have to be reprogrammed.
i think this is where people find me to be alien and creepy because they're still in status quo distribution. what's scary is that this is most of tech on x. it kind of sucks to be illedgible. being too early is sucky.
still. i'd rather be correct and face temporary pain. ugg. bunch of dumbos. they'll learn.
so yeah this future won't be utopian or dystopian. it'll be in the middle. many people will get screwed by what's coming but also lives will improve across the board. two things can be true at the same time.
yes i read what a lot people spit on x. most of it's uninspiring, obvious, and not tapped in. most shows that they're just regurgitating and/or parroting. i think i do it sometimes too to be fair but i think it's critical to question everything and everyone.
do not be a lazy thinker. it's not an easy path though. ugg :)
beautiful explanation. this is 100% happening. xitter.cf/sotak/status/211179423…
super toys like Teddy from the film AI. I feel mixed about this. everything is flipping so fast.
Introducing Hugo: the first human companion robot.
At Boston Dynamics, I was Chief Strategy Officer, bringing robots into the real world.
My co-founder, Farbod Farshidian, led research at the RAI Institute.
Together, 15+ years teaching robots to run, jump, and work.
So we asked: what if robots could connect with people?
Hugo runs on the first Vision-Language-Expression (VLE) model.
He links what he sees and hears to movement, expression, and gesture.
He notices you, reads the room, and reacts in real time.
And he's only the first.
Dynamic Creatures is @BostonDynamics' official entertainment and hospitality partner.
We're building a cast of characters with film studios, resorts, and theme parks.

Notice how he has very few eyes watching out for him. They are human eyes and can’t process much. Only really capable to handle close range threats.
I’ve been thinking a bit about robot body guards and what kind of cameras they’d use. How those cameras would process more of reality and catch that’s faster and at longer range.
Also how you’d likely want a circle of drone scouts further out ahead especially in cities where you normally can’t see around corners or within windows around corners.
This is where it’s going. The vip just basically walks alone with 8-12 drones surrounding them in 2-3 rings.
Also, I think there’s something interesting that could be done with city surveillance. Your security system could tap into cameras around the city to get a more transparent view of what’s ahead but not with the current systems.
I wonder what will happen with ask these riots happening in France and now Italy.
Either gov bends to the will of the people or they start firing live rounds into the crowds, but if they do that then it l likely escalate into civil war territory. It could also trigger other copy cat civil ways to break out I’d imagine.
making progress on the two sensor designs. enclosure 3D models and PCBs. thought i'd only take on one but timelines are accelerating. part of this is that humanity needs a way to deeper integrate with a near future ai architecture that allows for continuous alignment. the sys architecture i'm working on will allow for this. continuous alignment streams for each human. it was nice to see i'm not alone in this thinking

we're not ready for this but preparations need to be made now. i just hope it happens in time but bad bumps might happen before.
I think this is one of the most exciting and interesting areas of exploration and design. I’ve been building out diagrams for all internal processes/agentic automatons and realize how far this can go. It’s mind blowing kind of
after switching our approach to building a "FirmOS", I'm increasingly confident that the future of agent collaboration within organizational settings is going to be a "company operating system" or CompanyOS, designed for agent and human collaboration
instead of a "company brain" that holds everything, the OS is for storing rules, processes, decisions made, which tools to use and how. it can mirror some data, but the source of truth is often best held in your existing tools (CRM, etc.). it's continuously updated and used by your agents
i think of this as a "flipped playbook" where instead of writing down the company rules first and following them (which is kind of like waterfall development), you're constantly updating the playbook as you decide or learn new things day-to-day running the business
