i mean we all already knew that the general public sees writing fanfic as a cringy and largely valueless hobby for weirdos but it’s been kinda funny to see that the vast majority of people on this website who literally read it on the regular also think that

Between this and the genderbent Malfoy fanfic that "fixes the original story," the Online Right is transforming into a crude facsimile of 2014ish Tumblr with all of its worst excesses fused with the worst RW delusions about the impact of posting.
This is not a meme anymore. It never was. We successfully saved Anakin, and possibly Star Wars itself. This is a monumental zeitgeist victory the likes we’ve not yet seen. Your posting matters. Our posting matters. Never stop. Protect our hero’s. Protect our myths. We will WIN!

"demonising readers" and you fools can't even respect our basic humanity. we aren't demonising you, you're just straight up demons lmao.
Your writers aren’t so innocent. They threatened to leave first all while demonizing readers for sharing their work With Credit. These are the attention seeking baboons that we’ll be glad left and never come back

Back in my day people shared links directly to the original author's work and their original websites and sent them emails and drew them fanart and asked to hang out with them As OP correctly points out, y'all ain't historians: y'all are just common thieves
y'all trying to play historians with fanfic lore when i was there when the sacred texts were written. "back in the day they shared fics" yeah well back in MY DAY!!!! people didn't feed our work to AI machines and fic writers didn't have to deal with wannabe mean girls.

Why would the Chinese not have a right to speak? As of 2025, Chinese works made up 52.43% of all non-English works on AO3. Spanish works made up 10.63% of all non-English works. Why would chinese fic writers have no stakes in this conversation?

I think that's the problem. Most of these people, for lack of a better term, are leeches. They consume, consume, consume and never create, and it makes them hollow and unempathetic to the effort that goes into fanworks as a whole
If you're ashamed then change your behaviour, but stop asking me for absolution

Iran is one of the best examples of a government and people being detached from each other. The Government is made up of theocratic femicidal militarists and the average Iranian is a agnostic/culturally Muslim secularist in love with foreign media, products, and culture.

i was talking to some people on the ao3 subreddits (very toxic, would not recommend) and i came to the realization that a lot of people who read fic and thus follow the sub don't... participate in fandom? like at all? like they read ao3 and that's it

The pigs at the trough do not care where the slop comes from
yeah so the person who made this tweets nonstop about AI and already said they're going to scrape ao3 again and put it on a site specifically made for machine learning

i don't understand the hatred against fic writers. is it because fanart is a much more visual and tangible representation of skill differences? because writing and text seems like something anyone could do? is that the reason behind the disrespect? "anyone can write"? is that it?

this has turned into a game of 'how bad can i twist someone's words to make them look bad for wanting recognition for their work' bc nobody not one damn person has said this but yall love to villainize writers who make u content that y'all clearly can't live without for 2 weeks .
Wait. Are writers so hell bent on engagement on ao3 because it proves interest in the bid for a book deal? Is that what's happening??

Has anyone ever thought that Don is THE perfect monster to scare kids that were abused by their fathers/uncles? He is like the perfect hyper specific niche scarer He even has sticky hands to recreate the moments pre abuse I sometimes think of that
this is easily one of pixar’s finest moments

The point is he did that as a King AND it SHOWED us the quality of his character (someone who prioritize the life of many over his own), and that explains why he was so well-loved by the people all these years, without making everything about the male lead.

Ah, but I've been told it's the writers who are chasing numbers and fame and who are doing it all for attention
i do think ao3 was made for the downloading of fics but there’s a hugggeee difference between sending your downloaded epubs to mutuals privately, and posting photo slideshows of someone’s entire fic to another social media platform. like what is this
