I Thought Agriculture Was Just Farming. I Was Wrong. 🎙️ MARKET VOICES | Episode 2 When Lisa Kogere joined AFAP Uganda as a Graduate Trainee in Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), she thought agriculture was simply about planting crops, harvesting them, and selling the produce. But she soon discovered that every harvest begins long before a seed is planted. Today, Lisa understands that agriculture is shaped by many factors: soil health, access to quality seeds and fertilizers, weather patterns, market prices, and the decisions farmers make throughout the season. Through her work in Monitoring & Evaluation, she collects and analyzes field data to understand what is happening on the ground and how agricultural interventions are improving farmers' lives. What has stood out most is that behind every number is a story, and behind every story is a farmer working to build a better future. "One lesson I will carry throughout my career is to stay curious. The more questions you ask, the deeper your understanding becomes." 🔔A Successful Day at Kiwangala Grounds Earlier today, AFAP Uganda, in partnership with @Bayer, @yara,@KickStart_Intl and @RadioBuddu, delivered a successful Agricultural Show 2026 at Kiwangala Grounds, Lwengo in Masaka district, bringing together farmers, agribusinesses and other key stakeholders for a day filled with learning, innovation and opportunity. The show created a dynamic platform for farmers to access practical agricultural knowledge, engage with experts and explore solutions that can enhance productivity and profitability. A key highlight was the interactive DEKALB (DK) maize varieties challenge, where farmers tested their knowledge, shared experiences and won exciting giveaways while gaining deeper insights into improved maize varieties and modern farming practices. Through demonstrations, knowledge-sharing sessions and one-on-one engagements, farmers learned about quality seed, crop nutrition and sustainable agricultural solutions that can contribute to higher yields and stronger farming enterprises. Today's success demonstrated the power of partnership in bringing knowledge, innovation and opportunities closer to farmers. ☕ Empowering young women is key to a stronger coffee value chain! Today at Ankole Resort Hotel, AFAP joined @aBiDevt EYE-C Program World Coffee Day celebrations, featuring a learning and exposure visit to @CoRubanga and a Youth-Led Parliament. Young women from Kigezi and Rwenzori raised critical challenges, including limited access to land, finance, agronomic training and control over coffee income. Kamusiime Ruth, a young women’s representative from Kabarole, highlighted another key barrier: limited knowledge of where to access genuine agro-inputs, how to use them and how to benefit from government-subsidised programmes.
