The @NHLBruins and Marat Khusnutdinov have agreed to a 3 year extension! The AAV of this deal is a bit above projection, but the extra year and a great start to the season helps increase the AAV. The most interesting thing to us? This will walk him to UFA in 2030. #NHL

For those 1yrs that just signed and are not included, they WILL have a projection update during our usual midseason release in January. We are also reviewing if we want to add anyone else right now, like we did with Robertson.

We excluded players that signed 1yr deals this past offseason from our update. Reason being, if they just signed for 1yr, that deal is likely their value. However, there are some one off situations where a projection is necessary now, like Jason Robertson. Here's the projection👇

We've speculated a bit on DeBrincat's future on the @MaxTermPod. Bad vibes around the Detroit Red Wings this offseason between the Larkin and Edvinsson storylines. Getting DeBrincat signed long term is a much needed optics W to toss into the good vibes column.

In fact, we are projecting it!

Alex DeBrincat and the @DetroitRedWings have agreed to a #MaxTerm extension! 7 years, $13M AAV. The elite scoring winger cashes in at an AAV right about at our newly released projection, with one extra year on the term. Very fair in our eyes! #NHL

Thank you for the support. So for a lot of the better RFAs, we like to provide both a short term and a long term projection. That’s the case with Smith. Teams are usually best off going long term. In this rising cap era, it could payoff for the player to go short and cash in again soon. As far as Cagnoni, we get what you’re saying. At the same time, it’s only been a handful of games so far. These updates were done to really try and factor in the market reset that happened this offseason (we have a fairly recent @MaxTermPod episode discussing it - “Recapping the Wild NHL Contract Landscape in the Summer of 2026). Assuming Cagnoni continues to play a big role as the season goes on and gives us a stronger data sample, we’ll likely be able to raise his projection when we release our midseason projections. It’s just as of now, not much high end sample to go off of.
