On my last tweet, a few people were quite careful about not offending me with questions - PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS! Unless you write something blatantly horrible, I won't be offended. I've been a cop for a while - I have a thick skin! No such thing as stupid questions - ask away!
No one talks about how a string of two day haggim affects your @duolingo streaks.
A joyous Sukkot to all who are celebrating, and Shabbat Shalom!
This is absolutely awful. Rest easy, gents.
To all of our colleagues in Cleveland, the entire Police Family are thinking of you.
To the families, friends, loved ones, colleagues & all who tried to help PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough, you have our deepest & sincere condolences at this terrible time.

"Today's decision by the IOPC that after four years, firearms officer NX121 will not be facing a misconduct hearing, is welcome but has taken far, far too long."
Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley calls for further reform of the police accountability system.
As a police officer, I am obviously apolitical. But, regardless of my opinion, this would be objectively hilarious.

These are all great soundbites so let’s break them down.
“Catch more criminals.” - Facial recognition and ANPR are already integrated into existing Police systems - probably, with further national integration.
“Put more Officers back on the beat.” - No, it won’t. Response is constantly always under resourced as it is, recruitment and more importantly retention will put more Officers back on the beat.
“Tackle tool theft.” - I assume by relying on facial recognition integrated into cctv cameras to identify suspects. So basically point one.
“Fight retail crime.” - I think this is the third time facial recognition is being rehashed. What would work would be support from companies for prosecutions, companies paying for security and most importantly rewording S3 Criminal Law Act to include the word ‘necessary’ to prevent crime. It removes all the ambiguity around what is considered ‘reasonable’ but I doubt any of that will actually happen.
And the last one. “Free up the equivalent of 3000 Police Officers.” How? I love the idea of it. But paperwork will always require some human input. So that’s not it. Planning and case paper roles? Again yes some time but it will still need oversight. Again, what would free up Officers is recruitment and retention.
Exciting times for sure, but a reality check in a reasonable time scale is probably necessary. 👀
You can give me any award there is. Nothing gives me a stronger sense of achievement than getting my infant to sleep in 30° heat after an hour of trying.
On the flipside. nothing is more disappointing than when said infant wakes up 5 minutes later.
This heatwave is free to go.
It's been a rough time. Take the break, reconnect with family and community. Celebrate your Judaism.
Chag Shavuot Sameach!
Get some cheesecake in ya

I often push for recognition of the fact that being Jewish is an ethnicity not just my faith.
Zionism however, is not. You can be as white as you like and still be a zionist. What a silly banner.

The look of joy on my wife's face this morning, as I bent down to kiss our baby and got sneezed on in the face from point blank range, was priceless.
Dealt with a fail to provide last year. Went not guilty. Case adjourned today until end of the year...
I have a suspicion that if there were a way to suspend driving licences following a charge for drink/drug driving offences, we would have fewer NG pleas.
But maybe I'm cynical.
Owing to the classic mistake of overbuying matzah, my first meal after 8 days of Passover, (a time when Jews traditionally miss pasta, bread and other carbs), was.........
Matzah pizza 😂😂

Patient attends A&E with a chest infection… standard stuff.
Decides to pop outside for a vape and a bit of fresh air because, let’s be honest, the waiting room atmosphere could finish anyone off quicker than the illness.
Next minute… casually clocks a bloke acting a bit off outside the maternity ward.
Not aggressive, not shouting… just that “something’s not right here” vibe every frontline worker knows all too well.
So what does he do?
Doesn’t walk away.
Doesn’t ignore it.
Goes over for a chat.
Two hours later…
🧠 Talked down a “lone wolf” terrorist
🎒 Convinced him to open the bag (yeah… that bag)
💣 Found himself staring at a pressure cooker bomb
📏 Asked about blast radius like he’s doing a dynamic risk assessment
🚪 Moved the whole situation away from the hospital entrance
🤝 Built enough trust to keep the bloke calm
🤗 Given him a hug when asked
📞 Got him to agree to call police before he “changed his mind”
All while his own phone’s dead and there’s not a single staff member in sight to wave over.
Genuinely the most British de-escalation imaginable:
“Alright mate… talk to me… what’s going on?”
No PPE.
No backup.
No radio.
Just vibes, empathy, and absolute nerves of steel.
Meanwhile inside:
Crews stacked 8 deep
Handover delays hitting biblical levels
Someone asking “can you clear please” every 30 seconds
And this guy is outside single-handedly preventing a mass casualty incident like it’s just another shift problem.
Police turn up, job gets wrapped up, and he just wanders back in like:
“Yeah I’m back… still got that chest infection by the way.”
Probably still had to wait for discharge as well.
Massive respect though.
That’s not luck, that’s character. Calm under pressure, compassion when it mattered most.
George Medal couldn’t have gone to a more deserving person.
Proof that sometimes the difference between a normal day and a major incident…
…is just one person deciding to step forward instead of walking away 🚑

Little one is in bed. Mrs JC and I are on the sofa having wine and hamentashen. A very grown up Purim.
Chag Purim Sameach!
חג פורים שמח!
Following the birth of JC Jr, I took a couple months off work and have gone back this last week.
Don't recommend. Would much rather stay at home with mini-me 😂
On the other hand, one nicked today for being double the limit at midday and you can't do that whilst changing nappies!
Even going down this silly line of implying we should use our own money which they assume we all have, they are equating all "racism" and giving that as the need for security funding.
It isn't racism - it's terrorism. Having this debate so soon after Manchester is wildly ignorant
Ash Sarkar tries to ‘correct’ Dr Myriam Francois as she says that Jews are privileged and wealthy. “Individuals” prompts Ms Sarkar? “Group” doubles down Dr Francois.
It is part of her argument that Government funds are being unduly spent defending a minority against a secondary racism, using a classic antisemitic trope about Jewish wealth.
It might be ironic were it not so darkly dangerous too.
She is effectively arguing that because there are some Jewish billionaires in Britain, all Jews are therefore wealthy and privileged and they cannot possibly be as vulnerable or maligned as is being claimed.
It is hard to know where the ignorance ends and the prejudice begins.
Were Dr Francois to spend any time in Britain’s Jewish community, she would see families struggling with poverty, families that are comfortable, and families that are wealthy – just like any other community.
In any event, nobody deserves to be maligned for their ethnic or religious background, regardless of their wealth.
According to our analysis of Home Office figures, Jews are more than nine times more likely to be the targets of hate crime than any other religious group – and these figures are not even complete, such that the true scale is likely to be even worse.
It is insulting that Dr Francois dismisses the reality that British Jews are living through – to the point that a majority of them no longer see a future in this country – because she found some Jewish names on the rich list.
The fact that she was even looking is telling.
This is the face of ‘educated’ discourse about Jews in Britain, from an Oxford-educated doctor of philosophy and broadcaster for the BBC, Channel 4, Al Jazeera and the Islam Channel.
Some shops are better than others and will routinely provide statements, CCTV etc.
But what winds me up is petrol station chains that could prevent all bilking by putting in pay at pump at all pumps but don't because of the revenue lost from people not coming in to the shop.
🚨 Met chief Sir Mark Rowley shamelessly blames shops for shoplifting epidemic – while his own force ignores 94% of reports
Rowley whinged retailers "don't report anything" properly or supply CCTV – but supermarket bosses, staff and MPs brand it utter rubbish, saying shops have given up because police routinely refuse to attend or investigate low-value thefts.
Real reasons shops stopped bothering:
- Police policy: No attendance or charge unless theft over £200 (government guideline to "focus resources")
- Charge rate nationally: Pathetic 5.9% – meaning 94% of reported cases go nowhere
- Staff told "it's not worth it" as officers openly say they won't act on "minor" shoplifting
- Co-op alone suffers 1,000 incidents daily but sees zero police response most times
Critics slam Rowley for gaslighting victims while knife crime soars and thieves walk free – classic deflection from a force that's given up on basics.
