@MinEduGR @sofiazacharaki

Turkey systematically violated the provisions of the Treaty of Lausanne concerning the protection of the Greek minority. Although the treaty explicitly guaranteed the safety, property, and rights of the Greeks, the actions of the Turkish state during the 20th century led to the near-total decimation of the community. Key violations by Turkey against the minority include: 1. Economic ruin (Capital Tax – 1942): During World War II, Turkey imposed the *Varlık Vergisi* (Capital Tax), which was applied in a discriminatory and ruinous manner against non-Muslim minorities (Greeks, Armenians, and Jews). Those unable to pay the exorbitant sums saw their assets confiscated and were themselves deported to forced labor camps in Aşkale. 2. Violent persecution and pogroms (The September Events – 1955): On September 6–7, 1955, a violent pogrom against the Greeks of Istanbul, orchestrated by the Turkish state, broke out. Dozens of people lost their lives and women were abused, while thousands of Greek homes, shops, schools, and churches were looted and completely destroyed. 3. Mass expulsions (1964) Through a secret decree in 1964, Ankara summarily expelled approximately 12,000 Greek nationals who were living legally in Constantinople. They were permitted to take with them only 20 kilograms of luggage and the equivalent of 20 dollars. This forced their families (who held Turkish citizenship) to follow them as well, effectively stripping the City of its Greek element. 4. De-Hellenization of Imbros and Tenedos Article 14 of the Treaty stipulated a special status regarding self-administration, local policing, and the protection of Greek rights on these two islands. Turkey completely violated this article: it abolished Greek education, closed schools, expropriated Greek lands, established open prisons for high-security inmates on the island, and brought in settlers en masse, forcing the Greeks to emigrate. 5. Interference with Religious Freedom: Turkey violates Article 40 of the Treaty, which guarantees the right of minorities to manage their own religious institutions. A prime example is the closure of the Halki Theological School in 1971—which remains closed, thereby preventing the training of new clergy for the Ecumenical Patriarchate—as well as the continuous restrictions and interference by the Turkish Directorate General of Foundations (a state agency) in the management of assets and the elections of Greek charitable foundations (as confirmed by recent rulings against Turkey by the European Court of Human Rights). The Consequence of Violations: Due to these practices, the Greek minority in Turkey—which numbered over 110,000 people in 1923—has shrunk today to fewer than 2,000–3,000 individuals, mostly elderly; this fact demonstrates in practice the complete disregard for both the spirit and the letter of the Treaty of Lausanne on the part of Ankara.

This was the “religious freedom” the Turkish education system teaches even today to its hapless youth making them the most ignorant descendants of Genocide criminals.
On 3 May 1821, 4.000 Muslim Turks from what was then called Bilad al-Sham arrived in Cyprus and beheaded 486 Greek Christians in a single day because they didn't convert to Islam (Bilad al-Sham was the Ottoman Syria, which included Lebanon, Jordan, Syria Palaestina, Jerusalem, Gaza, and essentially the whole region, then divided into eyalets, or provinces). When Küçük Mehmet arrived in Cyprus, drew up a list of 486 prominent Greeks, with Archbishop Kyprianos at the top. He informed the Sultan that if these men were not exterminated, they could obtain weapons from Greece and rise in revolt. Then the order came from the "Sublime Porte", the office of the Grand Vizier. The directive stated that all those on the list must be slaughtered, unless they changed their faith, that is, unless they converted from Christian Greeks into Muslim Turks. On June 12, most of them were arrested in their places of residence and imprisoned in the dungeons, while 16 managed to escape. The first to be murdered as an example was Archbishop Kyprianos. On July 9, 1821, he was hanged in the Square of the Government House in Nicosia, under a mulberry tree. On the same day, the three Metropolitans of Cyprus were beheaded: Chrysanthos of Paphos, Meletios of Kition, and Lavrentios of Kyrenia, along with many other clergymen. On July 14, the "great massacre" took place. Approximately 486 Greeks of Cyprus were publicly beheaded. Imagine the number, around 400 Greeks in a single day. 486 Christian heads. Greek heads. Because they didn't convert to Islam. 36 were spared from death because they converted to Islam. The English traveler John Carne writes that he had met Archbishop Kyprianos, who, judging from the developments, foresaw the violent end that awaited him. Carne records the words of Kyprianos: "My death is not far away. I know they are only waiting for an opportunity to kill me." The French ambassador Jérôme Méchain writes about the atrocities committed by the Muslim Turks: "The island of Cyprus… quiet and peaceful… if left undisturbed… is today in turmoil from the day of the arrival of a large number of troops [...] …the Musellim is becoming more and more ferocious. Every day in Nicosia he hangs, strangles or butchers unfortunate people, Christians [...]" Meanwhile, the Swede Berggren writes: "The Virgin Mary dressed everywhere in black, many houses were spattered with blood." The poems that were written, such as "The 9th of July 1821 in Nicosia, Cyprus" by Vasilis Michaelides explain how much barbaric Islam is for this world. The hatred of the Muslim Turks against the Greeks has been etched into our memories and souls. We cannot forget. It is our duty to remember. 🇬🇷🎗️September 14th is the official day of remembrance and commemoration of the genocide of the Greeks of Asia Minor by the Turkish state. Having survived and thrived for 3,000 years, the Greek presence in Asia Minor was wiped out in the Great Fire of Smyrna, in 1922. The genocide began in 1914 and ended with the exchange of populations between Greece and Turkey in 1923. By 1923, more than 700,000 out of approximately 2 million Greeks living in Asia Minor at the beginning of World War I perished as a result of Turkey’s policy of “Turkification.” Overall, more than 3.5 million Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians were killed as a result of centrally planned and systematically executed deportations and murder.

September 14, Day of Remembrance of the Genocide of the Greeks of Asia Minor by the Turks. After the Armenian Genocide the Turks applied the same killing fervor against Greeks and Assyrians. The precursor to the Holocaust later by the Nazis against the Jewish people.

Αλυτρωτικοί χάρτες στα αλβανικά σχολικά βιβλία με 7 ελληνικούς νομούς ως «αλβανικές περιοχές» — αλλά η ΕΕ έκλεισε το κεφάλαιο της εκπαίδευσης! Σύμφωνα με επίσημα αποσπάσματα που κατατέθηκαν στη Βουλή των Ελλήνων, σχολικά βιβλία Ιστορίας και Γεωγραφίας της Αλβανίας περιλαμβάνουν χάρτες και αναφορές με σαφές αλυτρωτικό περιεχόμενο εις βάρος της Ελλάδας. Συγκεκριμένα, οι χάρτες εμφανίζουν την Κέρκυρα, τους Παξούς και τους Αντιπαξούς ως αλβανικά νησιά, ενώ οι νομοί Ιωαννίνων, Θεσπρωτίας, Πρέβεζας, Άρτας, Γρεβενών, Καστοριάς και Φλώρινας παρουσιάζονται ως «αλβανικά εδάφη που κατέχει η Ελλάδα». Τα συγκεκριμένα βιβλία διδάσκονται, μάλιστα, και στους μαθητές της Ελληνικής Εθνικής Μειονότητας στην Αλβανία. Το ζήτημα τέθηκε αρχικά με γραπτή ερώτηση στη Βουλή τον Μάρτιο του 2025 από τον Δημήτρη Νατσιό, η οποία δεν απαντήθηκε. Επανήλθε με επίκαιρη ερώτηση τον Ιανουάριο του 2026, με την κυβέρνηση να επικαλείται τη Μεικτή Ελληνοαλβανική Επιτροπή Εμπειρογνωμόνων. Η επιτροπή αυτή είχε συμφωνήσει ήδη από το 2018 να απαλειφθούν όροι όπως «αλβανικά εδάφη στην Ελλάδα» και να αφαιρεθούν οι σχετικοί χάρτες από το βιβλίο Γεωγραφίας και αναφορές σε «Τσάμηδες» από το βιβλίο Ιστορίας. Ωστόσο, το επίμαχο υλικό εξακολουθεί να καταγγέλλεται ως ενεργό. Τον Φεβρουάριο του 2026, ο ευρωβουλευτής Νίκος Αναδιώτης έφερε το θέμα στην Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή, ζητώντας να εξεταστεί στο πλαίσιο της ενταξιακής πορείας της Αλβανίας. Η Επιτροπή απάντησε γενικά περί συμπεριληπτικής εκπαίδευσης, μειονοτικών δικαιωμάτων και παρακολούθησης των μεταρρυθμίσεων, χωρίς να αξιολογήσει τους συγκεκριμένους χάρτες και τις αλυτρωτικές αναφορές. Για τον λόγο αυτό κατατέθηκε νέα ερώτηση, με την οποία ζητείται να διευκρινιστεί εάν η Επιτροπή εξέτασε πράγματι το υλικό και εάν θα απαιτήσει την αναθεώρηση των βιβλίων. Και όμως, στις 14 Ιουλίου 2026, η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση έκλεισε το διαπραγματευτικό Κεφάλαιο 26 για την Εκπαίδευση και τον Πολιτισμό της Αλβανίας, παρόλο που στις Γραπτές Ερωτήσεις ζητήθηκε συγκεκριμένα να ενταχθεί η απόσυρση του εν λόγω υλικού στην φάκελο της ένταξης της Αλβανίας. Το ερώτημα είναι αυτονόητο: πώς μπορεί να θεωρείται επαρκώς ολοκληρωμένο το κεφάλαιο της εκπαίδευσης, όταν σχολικά εγχειρίδια μιας υποψήφιας προς ένταξη χώρας φέρονται να αμφισβητούν ευθέως τα σύνορα και την ιστορία ενός κράτους-μέλους της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης; Τι κάνει η ελληνική κυβέρνηση και οι ευρωβουλευτές της ΝΔ;

Congress banned F-35 sales to Turkey for several reasons: the S-400s, the illegal occupation of Cyprus, and the threats to Greece, to name a few. @POTUS cannot just wave these actions away with a handshake in Ankara. I am urging @RepJeffries and @SteveScalise to introduce a Joint Resolution of Disapproval to prevent this Administration from illegally selling F-35s to Turkey.

Lifting U.S. sanctions imposed after Turkey acquired the Russian S-400 missile system in 2017 and clearing the way to provide Turkey F-35 fighter jets would be a strategic mistake, undermining the security of the United States, Israel and NATO. I was raised with the belief that trust isn’t given—it’s earned. When Turkey, a NATO ally, lost the U.S.’s trust in 2019 by purchasing Russian S-400 air defenses, it was rightfully banned from receiving F-35s due to the risk of allowing Moscow to collect sensitive data on the fighter’s stealth signature. Now, according to The New York Times, Trump is likely to reopen the sale to Ankara, and for the life of me I can’t imagine how the Turks earned it. Since 2019, they have kept every last unit of their S-400s—up to 200 missiles, many still in their shipping containers. They have remained the only NATO member that refuses to sanction Russia over Ukraine. They have hosted Hamas leadership in Istanbul and laundered billions for Iran, while Erdogan openly threatens Israel with destruction and, in Benjamin Netanyahu’s words this week, “talks openly about conquering Jerusalem.” They continue to occupy half of Cyprus—a fellow EU member—and to menace Greece, another one. Not to mention, this is the same country Trump himself claims he had to stop from joining Iran in the last conflict. If trust isn’t earned, it seems it can be bought. The salesman on the account is Tom Barrack, the billionaire real estate investor, longtime Trump friend and ambassador to Ankara. Barrack doesn’t talk about Turkey’s conduct; he talks about the deal. The seven-year ban his own boss imposed? “Insane,” he says. The legal requirement that Turkey actually give up its Russian missiles? A technicality to be workshopped—the S-400s are inactive, he assures us, so possession is just paperwork. This is, in his own words, “classic Trump deal-making.” And when trust itself came up, Barrack showed us exactly what the word weighs in his ledger: Describing the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire, America’s ambassador announced that “everybody has been equally untrustworthy.” Netanyahu appears to have known about the impending sale and tried his best to derail it. During an interview with Fox yesterday, Netanyahu, unprompted, launched into an attack on selling the technology to “a regime infected by the Muslim Brotherhood, an extreme movement that hates America and chants ‘Death to America.’” There was already early warning of this turn in late June, when the administration notified Congress of its intent to proceed with the sale of F110 engines to power Turkey’s indigenous fifth-generation fighter, the Kaan. Speaking alongside Vice President JD Vance, the president signaled he was prepared to make Erdogan “very happy” on both the engines and potentially on readmitting Turkey to the F-35 program. A “very happy” Erdogan sends a chill down my spine; thankfully, Congress is poised to ruin his mood. The law bars F-35 transfers so long as Turkey possesses the S-400, so the administration is hunting for a workaround: hand the systems to some unnamed third party (a mechanism, one official admits, that hasn’t been worked out), or pull a few key parts and declare them “inoperable.” And then there’s Israel. U.S. law obligates Washington to preserve its qualitative military edge, the guarantee that Israel outflies every rival in the region. Handing the region’s premier stealth fighter to Israel’s next regional rival certainly undermines that supremacy. To preserve the gap, Israel may receive further access or compensation of that nature. Even if Erdogan gets his announcement at this week’s NATO summit, the sale itself must survive a one-to-two-year gauntlet: some legal sleight of hand to make the S-400s “disappear,” lifting sanctions that remain in place, formal notification to Congress, and bypassing resolutions of disapproval lawmakers are already promising. Then Turkey joins the back of Lockheed’s queue, where recent customers have waited four to five years from contract to first delivery, meaning that beyond the handful of jets Turkey paid for in 2019, which are collecting dust in U.S. storage, no new F-35 is likely to fly over Anatolia before 2030. That gives Israel time—time it can use to throw up roadblocks for Turkey and to get itself into the F-47 program.

If Erdogan was considering joining Iran against us in our war against Iran why the hell would we sell them F-35s and jet engines?  Not a word about his threats to Israel, Greece, Cyprus.  Not a word about how our cutting edge technology, which took tens of billions and decades to perfect under multiple administrations, will be protected from getting into Putin’s hands.  As I said a mistake. A big mistake.
