So Flavio and his immediate family are now based in the US indefinitely. His own political party has recognized Lula's win. Never say 'die' in politics but where do the Bolsonaros go from here?

Audiobooks apparently average 2 minutes to read 1 page of text, so double the time for audiobooks.

It would be pretty amusing if the democratically elected left wing president of Brazil pushes the left wing dictatorship of Delcy Rodriguez to implement elections that would almost certainly result in the election of the right wing MCM to piss off right wing Trump admin
Interesting piece from @bloggingsbyboz on Brazil and Venezuela

That said, I'm not sure that he will. I haven't followed Lula's Brazil policy as closely as I did during the crisis of 2024, when he tried to gently press the Maduro regime and got humiliated for his efforts, but his interest seems inconsistent and ineffectual

Rumors that Flávio fled to US via Argentina in the wee hours of the morning. Brazil’s federal police say the senator did not formally leave the country but may have slipped across border. They are working on confirming with no response from Flávio staff yet

This will go down as Flavio Bolsonaro’s 'basket of deplorables' moment. In Brazil, it's common to hear vitriol against Lula: crook, corrupt, etc, all of which is considered banal Flavio, however, succumbed to the worst caricature of the Brazilian Right by calling Lula '9 Fingers'–an epithet used by elite opponents to refer to the former metalworker who lost a finger at 17 Lula aptly seized on this to attack Flavio for being raised raised in a gated community, never laboring a day in his life and insulting him and workers It may well have boosted his numbers in the run-off

Since the CBS quote from Nixon about Cuba is doing the rounds, from politics social media accounts that repost from actual news orgs: fwiw she is being explicit about it and CBS News has deleted the tweeted paraphrase people are sharing
It’s disappointing to have to say this, but @CBSNews, this is a serious failure of editorial reporting. I clearly state in this clip that while I have not personally been to Cuba, I have spoken with Cubans who have described it as a dictatorship, and I believe them. To claim I declined to answer the question is categorically false. That is not journalism. It is misinformation.

This isn’t to say she couldn’t/shouldn’t have been more forceful/stronger in her wording than she was (it’s Florida so I would have…) but just that clip makes it sound ambiguous when it’s weak but explicit

If Lula wins, it will be because the prospect of a Bolsonaro return shook the complacency and misgivings out of a national coalition that failed to take Flávio seriously as a challenger. The far-right is an indisputable force, but the premature PT obits will need to be shredded.

It was the turnout, stupid. 3 million more people voted in 2nd round than 1st. Only 3.2% of all voters spoiled their ballots, lowest percentage in a 2nd round this century Source: @folha

Arriving back in Europe to Lula having beaten Flavio Bolsonaro, keeping his golpista family out of power once more Lots of challenges await Lula’s new term, from rising debt to legislature’s right turn, but a crisis seems to have been averted for now

Lula finding a successor to lead PT is now no longer a good idea but a necessity. He’s old, term limited, and as incredible of a political figure as he is he also comes with baggage I wonder who can hold together the PT’s wide coalition *and* win over the liberals needed to win
