“The Group remains deeply concerned over the illicit trade, transfer, manufacture, possession, diversion and circulation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALWs), in many regions of the world, particularly on the African continent. The African Group highlights the need to establish and maintain controls over private ownership of small arms and calls on all States to ensure that the supply of Small Arms and Lights Weapons (#SALWs) are limited only to Governments, or to entities duly authorized by the Governments of recipient states, and to also implement legal restrictions and prohibitions preventing the illicit trade. “ The African Group stresses the importance of the prevention of an arms race in outer space through a legally binding instrument that would complement the international legal framework in a manner that allows for the equal exploration of outer space based on the principles of non-appropriation and peaceful uses of outer space in conformity with the five United Nations Treaties governing space activities, in particular, the 1967 Treaty on Principles Governing the activities of States in the exploration and the use of outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies. The African Group recalls the adoption of the African Space Policy and Strategy and regards it as an important Policy framework towards the realization of an African Outer Space Programme within the framework of Agenda 2063 of the African Union.” H. “The African Group attaches great importance to an independent, credible, impartial, transparent, and professionalized administration of justice within the United Nations at the core of which lies an effective independent judicial system, to tackle administrative disputes while appreciating the close connection between an effective internal justice system and the organization’s immunity from legal processes. The Group unequivocally underscores that an effective dispute resolution mechanism under the United Nations should be anchored solely on relevant laws, ensuring equal protection for all while also safeguarding the inherent rights of all personnel, promoting accountability and the values of integrity that underpins the establishment of the United Nations.” Mr. Onesime Alain Ndi Bitan, Coordinator of the 6th Committee, #Cameroon Mission @UN, on behalf of the #AfricanGroupUN, at the #UNGA81 on “Administration of Justice at the United Nations .” #Agenda2063 #TheAfricaWeWant #Agenda2030

“The African Group supports the principle of complete nuclear disarmament as prerequisite for maintaining international peace and security. (…). The Group maintains that, achieving the total elimination of nuclear weapons should be the overall objective of the United Nations. The Group wishes to express its deep concern over the resistance by the nuclear-weapon States to accomplish the total elimination of their nuclear arsenals, in accordance with their legal obligations and undertakings under Article VI of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). (…). The total elimination of nuclear weapons remains the only absolute guarantee against their use or threat of use. In this context, the Group reiterates the urgent need for our planet to be free of nuclear weapons, as their presence constitutes a grave threat to international peace and security and an existential threat to humanity.” H.E.
