Why are you not working with Azure Functions? ⚡ I had the opportunity to work with Azure Functions on several projects, and I have consistently been impressed with their capabilities. For those who may not be familiar, don't worry. Let me give you a brief intro. 🧵

TDD does not take extra time. Writing tests _first_ is not overhead because they force you to think through the problem and partition it properly. You’d have to do that thinking anyway. Testing after the fact IS overhead because you did all that thinking already.

We don't do code reviews (aka we don't do pull requests). Reviews are too late. You need to collaborate when you code, not check afterwards - changes made due to review outcomes are expensive. To quote Deming: “Cease dependence on inspection to achieve quality.” – at Amsterdam, The Netherlands

An Agile way to build: 1) Build the smallest simplest thing that does the work necessary to provide a small bit of value. That rarely requires a database. 2) Incrementally improve that thing. 3) If some improvement would have been easier had there been a database, refactor it in.

Replying to @jezhumble @swardley
I introduced a client today to unit testing, test driven development and shockingly, dependency injection. We started off with discussions around testing (manual) and I brought up the testing ice cream cone.

Really hoping @RTE The Den comes back. Otherwise, how will the youth of today get culturally significant content like this?

Limit backlog size to a couple weeks work. Narrow all stories to no more than a couple days. Sort them by value to the user. Pick the most-valuable one. Build it (getting feedback as you work). Adjust. Pick the next one. Repeat. Improve continuously—fix issues as they emerge.
Please do share your way of working without committing, story points and sprints

Some statistics to start the year: During 2021 Bitcoin consumed 134 TWh in total, which is comparable to the electrical energy consumed by a country like Argentina. Related CO2 emissions were ~64 Mt; enough to negate the entire global net savings from deploying EVs.

The problem: Heroic Individualism. An ongoing game of oneupmanship against both self and others, where measurable achievement is the main arbiter of success and self-worth. Regardless of how far you make it, the goalpost is always 10 yards down the field and desire persists.

I'm a founder at a startup. Here's my daily routine 🧵 7am: I take out my retainer. My dentist says I grind my teeth at night but he doesn't get that the grind never stops 8am: I text my mom "gm wagmi". She responds telling me I'm almost 30 and should figure my life out.

Do you hesitate to show your in-progess work early on? You should not as this insightful thread by @joulee suggests. Pixar's much fames Braintrust process reviews work iteratively and make it 'suck-less'. Likewise true for most knowledge. Here's my Sketchnote summary...
I meet a lot of people who think: I should only show work that is good and meets my (internally high) bar. But doing the opposite tends to get you further: 1) Faster execution 2) Deeper feedback 3) Process learnings 4) Improved trust 5) Team learnings Thread below 👇
Good question. Interesting answers:
Hi all, stakeholders recently asked me to give an estimate for completion of some app features. I replied with an estimate of 2-3 sprints. Which they immediately questioned & demanded to know how it could possibly take a team of 5 devs 6 weeks to complete.#estimates #agile 1/3

As a software developer, finding this fascinating. Apparently text search has completely replaced hierarchy among younger people as a means of accessing information and they do not understand the concept of a directory.
Astro (especially astro ed) folks: we are finding a persistent issue with getting (undergrad, new to research) students to understand that a file/directory structure exists, and how it works. After a debrief meeting today we realized it's at least partly generational.

The Bezos Regret Minimization Framework The goal is to minimize the number of regrets in life. When faced with a difficult decision: (1) Project yourself into the future (2) Look back on the decision (3) Ask "Will I regret not doing this?" (4) Take action
The @JeffBezos Regret Minimization Framework is a simple yet powerful mental model for making important decisions and unlocking growth in your career, startup, business, relationships, or life. A short thread on how it works and how it can change your life...

In 1969, after murdering the last of his five known victims, the Zodiac Killer sent a letter to a local newspaper that included a 340-character cryptogram. It remained a mystery for 51 years. Then three code-breakers cracked it. (via @arstechnica) wired.trib.al/YDAxsla
