One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was "composition"—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up. So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we're going to shock the world? "No," he told me. "We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us." Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026. There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true. But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone. Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were: 1) End the war 2) Focus on cost of living/inflation 3) Put America First 4) Change our relationship to Israel Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.) In the next few months, there's going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I'm open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you. The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night. If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest. But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there. I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.

Good read
I started looking into “citizens’ assemblies” after seeing Data Republican’s Democracy Files. What I found is a coordinated push to treat small, lottery-selected groups as more legitimate than elected legislatures or ordinary voters, and to convert their recommendations into law. You know perfectly well that the military is subordinate to civilian control. Hegseth destroyed Iran’s military and did so magnificently. Hegseth is not in any reason, shape, or form responsible for carrying out Iran in the first place.

I’m a team player. Not many things will make me go scorched earth. Setting up @PeteHegseth as scapegoat is one of them. And, yes, I know the blackmail. You know who you are.

Take note @ALGOP
🚨 JUST NOW: Gov. Ron DeSantis says had he not put Amendment 3, phase out property taxes on the ballot this year, REPUBLICANS MIGHT HAVE GOTTEN WIPED OUT. "This is close to an extinction-level event for Republicans in many parts of the country as we have seen probably in the last hundred years." "Of the 10 largest states in this union, only one state will have Republican control of their state, the state of Florida." ☀️ A lot of Republicans made sure to vote in Florida to end property taxes. He's got a point. Republicans barely won, despite a large registration advantage!

Natalie Winters' reporting is plugging a lot of holes in the Democracy Files from a different direction.
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: European Parliament money helped fund a CLOSED-DOOR meeting on resistance to Trump and MAGA ahead of America’s midterms. The keynote speaker? A University of Georgia professor who had publicly argued that Democratic victories could “make Trump a much weaker president for the rest of his second term.” The June 3 meeting examined where Democratic Party, activist and NGO resistance was working—and how European progressives could learn from it and strengthen transatlantic cooperation. The agenda spells it out: “CLOSED DOOR ROUNDTABLE.” “financial support of the European Parliament.” European Parliament Vice-President Katarina Barley convened it. The Foundation for European Progressive Studies and Germany’s Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung organized it. Professor Cas Mudde delivered the keynote, according to the organizers’ recap.

This is one of the most shocking drops yet. Coordination with foreign powers to overthrow our government? Shockingly awful. Having said that, I'd like to correct something I said on a Spaces where I commented that organizing with a foreign power to overthrow our government is "the very definition of treason." I did some legal research and that's not quite true. The federal law governing this is 18 U.S. Code § 2381, which reads as follows: "Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States." The question then becomes, what is an "enemy" that must be "adhere[d]" to in order for it to be treason? Like with most complex issues of law, there is not a 100% straightforward answer, but an 1863 SCOTUS case, U.S. v. Greathouse, suggests that an "enemy" in this context must be in an open state of armed conflict with the U.S. for a nation to be an "enemy." So, technically, the Color Revolution plotters are likely not legally committing "treason" unless they are coordinating with Iran, the only nation we are currently in armed conflict with. (And they may well be, who knows!) Sedition, OTOH? 😯
🚨🚨THE DEMOCRACY FILES / ILLEGITIMACY PLAYBOOK, PART 10: THE ROLE OF FOREIGN STATES🚨 (First post deleted for typo) How is an old government declared illegitimate and a new government declared the true successor? Months before the actual transition, the following are achieved in advance: • Civil society and activists get prepared for big uprisings. • Media narratives are pre-seeded. • Foreign officials provide cover. The last point is what this drop is all about. You saw it last night - as soon as Lula "won" the election, EU officials and Alex Soros immediately swept in with their congratulations. That is a deliberate strategy to grant Lula legitimacy, not an organic congratulations. The idea is to saturate the people with the idea that "this is the legitimate government, and you will accept it." In these files, we see the various NGOs strategize on how to reach out to governments in advance and prepare them for what is coming. We also revisit how USAID OTI, the regime change arm of USAID, allegedly re-organized themselves inside the country. We record one meeting taking place between Horizons Project and Catalonia officials. That we were able to document a meeting at all is unusual, because I'm told that these meetings are generally arranged at the highest levels and kept off the record (think Jake Sullivan, Norm Eisen level).

🇺🇸BREAKING: Supreme Court Rules 5-4 That President Trump Can Use the 1798 Alien Enemies Act on Tren de Aragua The decision confirms the Venezuelan gang can be treated as an invading foreign force. It removes the path of endless appeals and activist judges blocking deportations. Members can be rounded up and sent to El Salvador’s mega-prison. The ruling is a win for borders, sovereignty, and law and order.

BREAKING: Katie Hobbs-Aligned Canvassers Caught Willing to Allow Non-Citizens and a Felon to Vote Muckraker went undercover in Arizona to investigate the groups working to re-elect Gov. Katie Hobbs @katiehobbs and other Democrats. Here’s what we found: Stand Indivisible Arizona (endorsed Gov. Hobbs in their 2026 ballot guide) — Our journalist posed as a Canadian citizen and asked to register to vote. The canvasser not only agreed to help the alleged non-citizen register, but when asked whether other Canadians could register too, she said, “Tell them to do it online.” Worker Power (working to re-elect Gov. Hobbs) — Our journalist told a canvasser they were not a U.S. citizen. Despite this, at our journalist’s request, the canvasser marked “yes” on the citizenship question of the voter registration form. When We Count (the DNC’s own registration program) — Our journalist posed as a felon on probation and asked to register to vote. The canvassers looked up the law and saw that a felon on probation is ineligible. Even so, they encouraged our journalist to register: “You should just do it.” AFL-CIO (phone bank mobilizing voters for Gov. Hobbs) — Our undercover journalist asked a phone bank trainer whether to ask the people being called if they're citizens. The trainer’s answer: “We don’t care.” Our journalists stopped every exercise before any voter registration form was submitted. We also asked Gov. Katie Hobbs about these findings. Watch this report and share it with the world.
