You can't keep repeating the #dropletdogma myth re. close contact without addressing this obvious flaw. Physics and Math tells us it's almost certainly aerosol transmission at short range.

Let’s be prepared to do this where it’s needed
Frequent, rapid #COVID19Testing could drive the virus toward elimination within weeks, according to a new study from Harvard Chan School's @michaelmina_lab and colleagues from @CUBoulder. bit.ly/2IRRbbI #RapidTest
This ‘not being involved in infection control for very long’ argument that is used multiple times falls flat when it’s experts (who are less dogmatic - and yes perhaps more flexible in their thinking precisely because they have not been ‘involved for very long) @CollignonPeter

(4/4) As a self professed miasma theorist and aerosol hysteric, the question I hope to ask is perhaps the *actual* problem is that some “experts” have been involved in infection control for way too long to see new emerging evidence and too rigid to change their ways? #MedTwitter
❗️Coughing recognised as aerosol-generating behaviour ❗️CPR recognised as aerosol generating procedure @VicGovDHHS #PPE guideline Thank you @AndrewWilsonCMO National #PPE ICEG guidance now must follow - please stop arguing & start protecting all dhhs.vic.gov.au/personal-pro…

1/ Victorian lockdowns continue largely because #covid19aus transmission persists in health/aged care. Excluding these, our 14 day avg daily cases = 2.9 If only we knew these settings were drivers of transmission, we'd have upgraded infection control. Oh wait. We knew in April.

Fact: if we let run we could’ve ended up in the predicament of france UK in their 2nd wave. Per million of population at one stage Victoria was leading the world. Patience please

Are our healthcare workers more expendable than tradies? This is outrageous! @patientsafe3 @DrWilliams @DrMukeshH @venessb @DrEricLevi @DoctorKarl
Why do contractors & trades in Victoria have guidelines that recommend better protections than the guidelines released from the SAME government to protect healthcare workers? P2/N95s is the MINIMUM requirement for trades Healthcare workers deserve more vba.vic.gov.au/__data/assets…

@CollignonPeter @YouAreLobbyLud @nick_coatsworth @peripatetical @normanswan @AliciaTDennis @snouzin maybe ICEG should send CDC their better guidelines based on our Australian evidence? We obviously have something that they don’t have? Hubris?

@trentyarwood maybe Trent you have some better data as well that means we don’t need as much protection as American HCW’s? We are dying to see it.

"How to Talk to Kids about Medical Procedures" d311i5pe49swog.cloudfront.ne… It can be difficult for parents/carers to prepare kids for procedures. This info sheet on epickids.org.au provides some helpful do's and don'ts to set them up for a positive experience.

‼️Oh my goodness ‼️journalist asked deputy CHO Professor Allen Cheng @peripatetical to talk about #aerosol spread of #COVID19vic He did not answer & deferred question to @AndrewWilsonCMO ❌My comment : this is unacceptable- deputy CHO is an #infectious diseases doc, Professor

Not only does infectious disease literature seem unaware of aerosol calculations, they seem unaware of the size of fog and cloud droplets, pollen, dust, and many other common aerosol particles that are often >>5 microns. Epic thread by @jljcolorado 👇

22/ Yes the 5 um is everywhere in the infectious disease literature, and has been for decades. And… it is totally wrong! And, it suggests that ppl writing those guidelines and lots of papers quoting the 5 um for decades were perhaps not familiar with these basic aerosol...

Australia could have been in a similar position. Epidemiologists would recommend elimination not a suppression strategy (whatever that is). We were initially fortunate despite government inaction & "claytons" lock-downs but Victoria is a legacy of a failed suppression strategy.

The US public health decision to dismiss the importance of aerosol transmission of SARS-COV2 was based on politics rather than science. I am a pulmonologist who has worked for CDC/NIOSH and ran a molecular virology lab. I am DEFINITELY saying the protocols are wrong.

Top level risks now in Oz - Aged Care - non quarantined essential interstate travel eg trucks, flight crew - ICEG - the non diverse group who make PPE rules that make no sense to those of us on frontline - HCW are exposed unnecessarily & the whole system put in jeopardy
