More will come! And also it will spill over to other specialties and also junior doctors. It has been bad for years and now it’s just gotten so bad that doctors are being galvanised to action!

Utrecht University @UniUtrecht in the Netherlands has withdrawn itself from the World University ranking @THEworldunirank provided by @timeshighered. As this has generated quite some reactions - praise, questions, some doubts, I want to provide some context. Hence a thread 🧵1/16

How decisions by physicians are affected by left-digit bias (like retail pricing of $7.99 instead of $8.00)
—ED diagnosis of heart attacks age <40
—Decision to do heart surgery age >80
—Opioid prescription for age <18

I just tested it to make sure I'm not crazy on a new device on iOS 17, and from first visiting HeyDATA.org, through Gumroad/Apple Pay checkout, all the way through initializing and installing.
The ENTIRE process to get to the point of having a conversation with DATA installed on your device where it knows your calendar?
10 Minutes. Exactly.
And 3 minutes of that is waiting for the output of HeyDATA.org :P I'm so proud of how simple the process is for new customers now!
After 5 years of work, we have finally reached our next big milestone!

How does SARS2 cause neuronal dysfunction? TLDR: Spike protein causing neurons and other glial cells to fuse together and compromises neuronal function.
This can lead to all sorts of dysfunction!
science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…
Perhaps other sorts of cognitive dysfunction and memory impairment or brain fog could be due to abnormal neuronal fusing and losing their ability to function!
With sufficient neural plasticity and youth you can recover, but in older patients this may not be the case…
AI doing good:
An exciting paper on utilising machine-learning / AI in the discovery of a new bacteria specific anti-microbial targeting drug resistant A. baumannii!
Now to do the same for MRSA, VRE, Pseudomonas etc etc.

The head of one of the top political donors in the country has been touted as a future Senator, while the Liberals he would join back him in on a major debate.
It's high time we shine a light on the murky world of lobbying and political donations. smh.com.au/politics/federal/…
This is a fantastic initiative by the Federal government that all doctors can support. It will cut “just a script” visits down and for the truly stable patients, an annual check up and script refill is all that is needed. More efficiency and capacity for our healthcare system.
Great news today that many patients will be able to pick up 2 months of medicines, and only need a yearly checkup with their doctor. A win for quality care that’s cheaper and more convenient!! smh.com.au/politics/federal/… @amapresident @ama_media @natassiazc

Here’s a re-cap of what various inquiries/reviews/experts have said about the Pharmacy Guild Agreement and its anti-competitive provisions which benefit providers over consumers.

Still doubling down. Wow. No clinician I know believes the current system or level of funding is working. We all said that. We are all still saying it.
Yet instead of working together this vendetta continues.
A sad day for patients & workforce. theage.com.au/politics/feder…
Using real data, Harrison et al from the Menzies Centre showed that GPs on average save Medicare $350m+ per year due to net under billing of services.

This was recommended in a @GrattanInst report a few years ago. It has been assessed by independent experts as safe, ↓ copays, ↓ GP workload but also ↓ pharmacy owner income. I still support this theage.com.au/politics/feder…
This is a fantastic idea. Even better doctors should just write private scripts with increased dispensing quantities for those medications that make no difference in cost whether private or PBS. Best example of this: 6 month supply of OCP dispensed once.

The @TheLancet has just released a series on the Commercial Determinants of Health (CDOH). Where it talks about how capitalism affects health outcomes in both positive and negative lights…
‘Policy inertia’ is enabling the products and practices of some commercial actors to cause significant, ongoing harm to health, warn experts.
A new Lancet Series argues for a bold system overhaul that puts people and planet first: hubs.li/Q01HD8h_0
Now let’s recall who the Pharmacy Guild represents? Not the pharmacists, but the OWNERS of pharmacies. This used to be fine as pharmacies were local and owned by pharmacists but since the corporatisation of healthcare, their tactics have also taken a more corporate fashion.
As we head into the future of healthcare let us think about what we want:
Service substitution with an inferior and perhaps cheaper service or,
Improvement through innovation and efficiency by investing into technology and processes to expand service delivery?
