I was super excited to buy a ticket (for my husband) to attend @jonlovett 's #TrektheVote show next week - but then I realized it is the first night of #RoshHashana. I guess you'll have to live long and prosper without the help of your observant Jews?

Reading "Anthropocene Reviewed" by .@johngreen and the review of "Mortification" helped me reckon with two extraordinarily overeager emails I sent in December. Mortifying.
So I guess I should be asking for an address to mail a copay since this book is such effective therapy...

Gutting the Supreme Court and an independent judiciary means gutting women's rights, while taking away our only recourse for justice.
Today I spoke to Dutch TV about how the judicial overhaul will affect women's rights. @cwjisrael
Ondanks massale demonstraties werd in Israël vandaag een omstreden wet aangenomen. Wat zijn de gevolgen? En wat gaan vrouwen ervan merken? #Nieuwsuur

Last Friday, a young Orthodox Jew — Herschel Siegel — died by suicide. I have been thinking about little else since.
Those who know Herschel have shared nothing but positive memories and stories about him with me.
Herschel struggled with mental illness. He was also gay.
Every day is a good day to remember that all human beings are created in the image of God. It's our job to find the Godliness in everyone.

cw: suicide
on queerness and mental illness:
No one knows, nor can they know, why Herschel Siegel z"l or any other queer person ends their life. When you chalk it up only to mental illness, what you're implying is that mental health implies the ability to survive anything.

Data from @TrevorProject found that 41% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. Data from JQY suggest that the suicidality number is closer to 70% among Jewish queer youth growing up in Orthodox families. forward.com/opinion/545834/q…

The absurdity of this question is too much:
how should halakhically observant people treat people who are LGBTQ+ and out?
Let me answer it for you -
with respect, dignity and compassion, like you treat anyone else.
It's just not that complicated.
Watch out! Here we come! Irresponsible women with weak minds!

Thoughts on the recent @YUNews controversy:
If YU is a microcosm of the greater “Modern"/Centrist Orthodox community, the Pride Alliance legal battle, the Shenk Shul debacle, and now the women’s Gemara controversy at Stern all reflect the reality that:

Hey @espn , stop reminding us that the #Leafs have lost ten consecutive series-clinching games. We don’t need that kind of negativity in #leafsnation. #GoLeafsGo
Tickets are now on sale for @AlexEdelman in #Justforusshow on Broadway. When I saw it in DC, I laughed harder than is advisable for someone who has birthed two humans. Run, don’t walk, to buy your tickets. fb.watch/jOT61U4287/?mibexti…

If you don’t believe that people who are trans can be created in the image of God then you believe in a severely limited God.

For my sermon this week, I went with "Yes to Isaiah" alongside "No to Smotrich" and even managed to sneak in a veiled @AlexEdelman reference. Your daily reminder that all human beings are created in the image of God. docs.google.com/document/d/1…
This article is moving and powerful; Purim is a good time to be reminded that no one should have to hide their identity for the greater good.
