5,000 jobs cut at Barclays. Due to AI? Doubtful.
Barclays is spending more than £100M to cut jobs, mostly on the UK high street. £125M of UK restructuring lands this quarter alone. The July analyst call laid it out: £100M of 'structural cost actions' in H1, up to £500M more in H2, £600M for the year. The payback target is 100% within 12 months. That math only works with people. Barclays was on my Feb 6 watchlist. Q3 results are Thursday. Listen for the word 'simplify.’

CONFIRMED - EBAY CUTTING OVER 1,000 EMPLOYEES eBay is cutting ~9% of its workforce (~1,100 people, to “simplify ops and prioritize growth areas.” This follows the ~800-job (~6%) cut in February. They’ve filed 664 H-1B petitions in the same period as these layoffs👀
$EBAY Layoffs? Reducing workforce 9% - Employees will be notified in the coming days. Have no other confirmation besides this email screenshot at present. Anyone else get this email? ebay earnings are on Oct 28th.

Almost certainly these are jobs that were replaced in a Bangalore hub. We are 1% protective of American labor when we should be 100% protective.

Ohhhh $GM Factory Zero laid off 2,500 workers in a single year. Now GM has $20B for its own stock, sitting next to $11.2B in EV write-downs. When a company says its shares are undervalued while its plants sit under-used, it's telling you where it thinks the return is. The UAW already put 2028 bargaining on notice….I'm watching the next headcount move.
GM just did it again.Another 1,300 workers cut at Factory Zero. That’s 2,500 layoffs this year… from the same plant. YES, these are temporary layoffs for 30 days again... but is this really due to stalling production or because demand is getting repriced in real time?

H-1B - One year ago today: Companies said they couldn’t find the right workers… I said this was engineered. Twelve months later, the Vice President is the one making my argument. He says Microsoft replaced laid-off Americans with 'one and a half foreign indentured servants.' He recently explained what he meant by that. Microsoft and Adobe were suspended from green card sponsorship. And Vance now says the problem is the company 'which brings a person who sometimes will lay off an American worker.' Same story, just a bigger microphone now. Will we see significant change?
10K+ new H-1B visa recipients in states that swear they “can’t find workers.” The crisis was engineered. The visas prove it.

Comcast may be preparing another round of layoffs. And this one could be significant. Rumors are circulating that another major round of cuts could land by the end of this week or next. $CMCSA reports earnings tomorrow morning. My workforce data shows Comcast's headcount as decreased this year - yet the company is still bringing in people across strategy, engineering, pricing and revenue-generating roles. The scale of the rumored cuts isn't confirmed. But the timing, right against earnings, has my attention. I'll be watching what management says tomorrow. And what happens to headcount afterward.

COMCAST LAYOFFS CONFIRMED! -- Well. That was quick. This morning, I warned that $CMCSA was preparing for another significant round of layoffs. Hours later, Bloomberg is reporting exactly that. What interests me isn't the confirmation. It's what comes next. Comcast has been shedding employees while continuing to hire in strategy, engineering, pricing, and revenue-generating functions. Tomorrow, management gets to explain the strategy their earnings call. The workforce has already begun telling the story.

Patrick Witt, three days after leaving the White House as the Executive director of the President's Council on Advisors for Digital Assets, and being on the White House Crypto Council, at Money20/20: "South Korea, Japan, the Middle East, a lot of great conversations." He said other countries' digital asset advisers and central bankers were "holding their breath" for the Clarity Act. It died Sept 15. He called it a missed opportunity for the U.S. to lead. His next job hasn't been announced. I'm watching where he lands.👀

Comcast expected to report falling revenue and declines-- those layoff rumors might also be true!

Washington told non-emergency diplomats and their families to leave Saudi Arabia. Seven drones were intercepted over the Eastern Province and Madinah, and debris at Shaybah killed two contract workers. Now picture a hybrid FII this month, with Wall Street CEOs in Riyadh and the main airport curbed. Postponing was the only call. What I'm watching next is whether 'Saudi only' stays Saudi only. Staffing in Abu Dhabi, Doha and Manama will show how far the risk spreads.
My take: Saudi should postpone FII outright, not go hybrid. A hybrid FII gives everyone a list of who flew in and who dialed in. Every CEO who stays home gets noted in Riyadh, and the ones who do go are walking into a city dealing with Houthi strikes. The reason Wall Street always showed up has also weakened…. PIF has pulled back on investing outside the kingdom and concentrated into fewer bets. Fewer mandates on the table means less reason to take the risk. Postpone, let everyone save face, and hold it when the room can be full. I'd bet that's what the executives who went to Rumayyan privately are hoping he does.

$MSFT Microsoft's job cuts aren't done, and Xbox is where to watch next. Asha Sharma is reportedly planning three more rounds: this month, November and January. 1,868 jobs are gone against a 3,200 target, so roughly 1,300 more are coming. Spreading cuts across a whole year is a choice. It keeps the margin story moving and leaves everyone who's left waiting. I'm watching for the October round.
Microsoft layoffs coming? YES MORE. This time for CSAMs? The letter provided info that lines up exactly with my workforce modeling and what I would expect for layoff structures. Microsoft gave thousands of Customer Success Account Managers a choice (alleged memo went out April 29th): Deadline to become a part of this program to reskill looks like by May 6th… I’d expect late June- August for impact: 5–10% reductions overall 10–20% perhaps inside the directly affected orgs Overall I would say this will affect: Customer Success Account coordination Non-technical client roles Delivery managers Internal support roles Enablement layers Possibly: Sales support Some product/program roles Likely safe for now: Solution Engineers (target roles) AI /Cloud /Infra Highly technical ICs The run down will look like this: Offer reskilling (opt-in filter) Measure who qualifies (May–June) Identify excess headcount (late June) Cut as needed (July) Clean up with further forced layoffs (August) Now layoffs are being hinted at with “career mobility” emails. What timeline are we living in?
