Ukraine is unlikely to regain all its territories, and the war will end in compromise — NATO chief According to Mark Rutte, a complete victory for either side in Russia’s war against Ukraine is unlikely. The conflict will most likely end with a peace agreement requiring compromises. However, Rutte stressed that Ukraine alone must decide the terms of any potential peace deal. He also warned that Russia would continue to pose a threat to Europe even after the war ends.

Oil traders are seeking approval from the US government to use some tankers that were sanctioned for their involvement in shipping illicit oil, in an effort to address a vessel crunch and lower prices. At least four companies, including Trafigura Group, Vitol Group, Mercuria Energy Group Ltd., and Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. are in discussions with US officials for licenses that would allow them to purchase or lease some ships that are blacklisted by the US government, according to people with knowledge of the matter. #oott bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

1) Taurus is in no way optimized for prosecuting time-sensitive, mobile targets, including Russian ballistic missile launchers. 2) Using them for mobile launcher hunting would actually be an extreme waste of the missile. 3) Germany will not deliver Taurus to Ukraine. That ship has long sailed.
Taurus are ideal for striking Russian launchers. The missiles will be tested in combat conditions if an agreement is reached with Germany.

☨🇨🇵☨ Sources : © @Inafr_officiel musee-armee.fr/echo-du-dome/…

Russia is close to crisis? have you seen Ukraine's economy? - in charts and infographics... you can't take a beating like Russia is giving it and do business. Ukraine's economy slips into contraction as inflation hits 10%, trade gap tops $45bn everyone points to Russia's "sky high interest rates" of 14% (which have been falling). Ukraine's NBU just *raised* rate to 16.5%... Russia's economy is growing albeit anmemic. Ukr is falling. etc. intellinews.com/ukraineand-0…

How much better off will Africa be when its governing elites focus on technical issues within their control rather than obsessing over ideological projects that are meaningless to the well-being of their citizens? "Every year, as the African Union convenes in Addis Ababa, delegates ritually invoke the Berlin Conference of 1884-85 as the original sin of African fragmentation. Borders drawn by Europeans with rulers, over cognac, the story goes, carved up a continent. It is a powerful myth. It is also largely wrong. And its persistence has become a convenient alibi for a governing class that has spent three decades failing to deliver on the pan-African dream. Let’s start with the General Act of February 26, 1885. Precisely two of its 38 articles address territorial claims. Africa’s interior borders — those that define its 54 states today — were negotiated bilaterally between colonials and African elites over subsequent decades. Half of Africa’s borders did not exist in any form until 1891, and half were substantially modified after 1908." "The borders are a fact. The failure to build constituencies for integration within them is a choice. The African elites who invoke the 'Scramble for Africa' but fail to implement trade agreements and finance institutions make those around Bismarck’s table almost look like Pan-Africanists."

Russia spent two decades turning itself into a #grain superpower — the world’s top wheat exporter with roughly 21% of the global market and tens of billions in export revenue. Officials even called grain a “silent weapon.” That model is now under real stress. Ukrainian strikes on Black Sea and Azov ports in 2026 have disrupted the routes that normally carry the bulk of Russian grain. Exports have fallen sharply, alternative corridors (Baltic, Caspian, even experimental Arctic shipments) cannot fully compensate, and domestic prices have collapsed. Many producers are selling below cost; a large share are operating at a loss. Importers in Africa and elsewhere are already diversifying. Loginov’s analysis for @RiddleRussia shows how the war is forcing the Kremlin to prioritize military objectives over the full recovery of one of its few remaining high-value export sectors — with consequences for both Russian farmers and the global grain market. Worth reading if you follow food security, commodity markets, or the economic side of the conflict: ridl.io/harvest-of-war-russi…

Using cruise missiles to shoot down cruise missiles is an incredibly inefficient use of a military asset. Ukrainska Pravda, quoting Serhii Sternenko: electric interceptors should reach 550-600 km/h for a few minutes. DroneXL puts jet Geran-4/5 at 500-600 km/h. That is an improvement but leaves little or no margin in a tail chase. Early warning and positioning will continue to be extra critical. The cost efficient solution are small turbojet intercept drones. The constraint is turbojet engines and cueing, not airframes. For several weeks, Ukrainain media has discussed using Bars cruise missiles as interceptors for jet drones. They lack the maneuverability to be efficient and their range and payload is literal overkill. I'm really surprised how behind the curve Ukraine is on countering jet drones. European supporters should be ringing alarm bells as there is still no answer to a threat Russia could easily turn on them. While China does manufacture the majority of small jet engines, after more than a year production of small jets should have started elsewhere. A fair amount of my direct research on drones has been spent with hobbyists at the local RC airfield. Ukraine's other innovations have been considered surprisingly quick.
